Just bought an Engel SHX100 generator. At the beginning, it ran, but stalled if the choke was opened. Now, it starts, but just stops - seems like it runs out of fuel. Would like to have it going for
Easter camping, so trying this
forum before going to service agent. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Take it back for a credit while you have chance and replace with Honda or Yamaha. The Engel are square wave and
cook and damage many appliances and computers. Cannot run any electric motor device or sensitive equipment or anything with a transformer.
With their 2 speed motor switch the Engel uses lot more fuel and makes a hell of a lot more racket than Honda or Yamaha. The Engel generator is an over priced low quality inverter very noisy piece of equipment.
Check the dB specs compared to Honda or Yamaha.

Is it new or second hand, and if second hand how long since it was used?
In addition to all of the above advice, it may need a good carby clean, if it's second hand.
If it's new, take it back.
Fred.

Hi there , as others have suggested -
check to see if fuel vent is open , if in doubt crack the fuel cap and start , when going from choke to run - move it very slowly , if it starts to stall , go back to choke - if its like this the whole time then it would suggest there is a fuel problem - ie water in carbi . fuel tank. - dirty carbii - yes it does happen from brand new - when tested they use fuel - but do not completely run out - that fuel can dry out over the months before its sold , and leaves deposits in carbi that can block orifices , if under warranty - take back - if not pull carbi of -- pull apart - soak in petrol / carbi cleaner - blow clean with compressed air

forgot to add , if the carbi does not come off easy - ie feels like its stuck/ glued after you have removed screws , give it a gentle hit with handle of large screw driver or such - this will shock it - and break away from the gasket without damaging the gasket - 9 times out of 10 it will work ... and save having to buy a new gasket

How long has the oil been in it?? I recently went to give
mine a run, and had forgotten to change the oil, as it had done some work and hadn't been used for some time. I dragged it out of the cobwebs to start it up, and it ran but very intermittently.
checked the oil level, and to my surprise it smelt like fuel, and the old oil had broken down and was very thin. Drained it and topped it up with new stuff and runs again like a dream.
cheers Unc

Check the exhaust/muffler....make sure those pesky mud wasps/hornets havent built a nest in there and blocked it.
Cheers Keith
