Folks,
It seems the fun police are at it again. Limeburners Fire trail a very popular way into Yerranderie from the southand is to be closed by NPWS and turned into wilderness.

I believe that it will happen in the next few months. If you feel as I do that locking up these areas deprives those of us who are not young and fit enough to walk in there write to your local member.

Gazza,

are you sure that is the go as last time I visited the Yerranderie care taker was telling me Limeburners is actually private property and the signs had been taken down to stop people camping there but apart from that it was staying open.

Would be a shame if it were to be closed as it is a beautiful little drive and a nice place to stop on the trip into Yerranderie from mittagong way.

Yeah Gazza

I was there yesterday & the caretaker at Yerranderrie confirmed it will close at Christmas. It is on Private property & they are the ones who want it closed. Thanks to the few Yahoos out there that have ripped up the camping area continually. The National Parks is the one that will be closing it on behalf of the private land owners.

Cheers

Yeah, we were there yesterday as well and it seems that the push from NPWS to close it was being resisted by the owners of the property but with recent troubles from idiots ripping up the place they finally agreed to let the NPWS have their wicked way.

Val's not too happy about it but there's not much she can do to stop them.

I guess the real issue is that a few idiots in 4WD's who act irresponsably are ruining it for the majority.

You only have to look at what happened at Bendethra recently, but rather than closing the areas up they should be chasing the yahoo's and banning them from registering a 4WD for about 10 years for Environmental Vandalism.

I'm all for open access to the bush. Been to Limeburners camping quite a few times. I usually camp up the back and to the left behind the grove of trees, not easy to see the tent from the track.

A few times I have caught people who thought the place was deserted doingbleepthings, like donuts in the grass and mud up near the monument and even watched a 4wd club drive in and out of the creek "testing" the traction control on a new vehicle in comparision with the old model until neither could negotiate the creek bank any longer because of the mud they had churned up( i was listening on the UHF ). You would think they would be enviro concious.

My wife and I have had a few pleasant times down there. I videod a pair af male lyre birds fighting over a hen in that place. My wife saw a wombat cub? for the first time in limeburners. Last time I was there all the wildlife except a few birds had left. No swamp wallabies no grey fliers no wallaroos pretty dismal for spring.

The state the fools leave the place in it's almost a good thing (IMHO)they are closing the gate. It takes so long for the environment to recover down there that it will be a dust bowl or undrivable bog in no time unless something is done.
