Thanks Matt. Oh dash ! (just trying to be good) My mate I was going out there with has just had yet another h/attack and will be involved with some medical stuff so will see how I go. He is a smoker and just over half the age of my fearless leader, Sully.(He had to get flown to Bris by our hereos, Flying Doctors, so I guess I owe them yet again)

One of the things to do on our list is to go to
Birdsville on ANZAC day, my hubby wants to pipe at their ANZAC service and any other small out of the way
places we can. ANZAC day will be special for us this year as our son will be home in his home town to march after deployments in Iraq, Afghanistan and East Timor if he gets permission from the army. His dad will pipe for the march of course. So if any small towns want a piper for their ANZAC service in a few years time when we travel just let us know via the
forum

Barbara, we love having the pipes in
Birdsville - and it would be an honour to have you and your husband there. You'd be surprised how many times we've been piped up to the Pub for dinner!!!

Hello Rocky One - I can tell you that Sully must have left this morning, as planned, because when I drove past the Pub at 6:15 pm tonight his 'town' car was not outside the local Pub.
Ian left for
Birdsville at 1:30 am Sunday morning and got there at 12:30 am Monday morning (idiot!) and drove from
Windorah to
Birdsville in the dark only hitting the
water a couple of times when he missed the detours.
Water still very high around
Birdsville and road from east only opened last Friday.
Fishing no good because
water still too high - but can report that Ian caught some nice big yabbies (eating size) today which will be needed for Good Friday's creekfood and for the entree after the Anzac Day Service.
I am flying out on Thursday 21st and will march as usual in
Birdsville wearing the medals of my paternal Grandfather (26th + DSC) and my Father (2/26th and POW Changi) - can't fit the other Grandfather's on (his MC is in the War
Memorial) - I also wear my Mother's, she was a signals operator in the Navy during the War.
Back to Sully, geez anyone who calls him a gentleman musn't know him very
well, LOL! Sullyl and my husband Ian share the same birthday 7th March and yes he just turned 88.
Sully will probably have a problem tonight because
Roma is experiencing flooding
again - so he might have an early
camp.
Have a good Anzac Day everyone - I will post some photos of us at
Birdsville.

Hi Ruth. Thanks for sharing all that great information. So many
well earned medals you guys.
Birdsville must be so proud that you guys even bother to go to so much trouble and cost to be there each year. Both you and Sully could write magic books on your most recent, highly qualified, in one way or another, professions. Then there is Sully's military history, that which he would care to share with us. You ,Ian and Sully are truly pioneers in your own special ways. As with the ships of
the desert, may you have smooth sailing. Break out the rum ration !

RockyOne - I am pleased to report that Sully arrived about 2:30 yesterday (Good Friday) in good spirits with a couple of others in tow - almost literally as they pulled a vehicle and camper trailer out of the
water near
Betoota.
Sully went around the
Roma water by going down through
Cunnamulla and back up - think through
Toompine (to stop at the Pub of course) and met up with the others at
Windorah and travelled that way together (some more
Rathdowney people).
The weather is absolutely beautiful (not a drop of rain in sight thank goodness) - light southerly blowing (cool in the mornings) and
water drying up quickly. Diamantina is just under the bridge and flowing fast. Yabbies not so plentiful but a good feed of big ones last night in a light white curry sauce with rice and fresh salad.
Went to the
Bakery this morning to say hello and have a coffee and trial one of the new pastie
recipes (yummy) - checking the yabbie pots (we need enough for Anzac Day) - generally just chilling out.
Fair few tourists around - all with very muddy vehicles - plenty of caravans here. You can get about two
sand dunes from Big Red at the moment - haven't been adventuring yet - been doing the housework thing and chipping burr (Ian's job).
I will report some more with photos of the March on Monday.
Have a good Anzac Day everyone.
