Hi,

I am trying to register a domain name with Melbourne IT and I appears I need a Legal Entity Name, Identity Type (ie ACN, ABN), Identity Number and Entity Type to do it. I am confused, as all I want the domain for is to make it easier for others to see my website. It is for personal use only, with no reason to generate income from it.

How do others do it?Just Do It!

That's why you can't register the name. If you were a business on the other hand, not a problem!! Look at registering a .com name instead as it's not regulated in Oz!!

G'day Glenn, You'll have to post your web site so we can check it out. You could link it to your photo I think! Look forward to seeing it.ne cede malis

It is much easier to get a .COM or .NET or .ORG name than anything.AU

I use Server 101for both my domain name registration and hosting.

I used Ezihosting in Melbourne. Found them on the internet and registered www.kempen.id.au No worries and only $19.50 per year for 2 years. Registering .com.au was more problematical so I went the .id way.
Cheers,

Willem

Thanks guys for all the replies. I have learnt a lot today...especially shop before you buy...lol

To anyone else, it is easy to find out if your required domain name is available, but shop around on prices before registering it. A hint...don't use Melbourne IT
