Gday all, So I am contemplating getting a van with a ATM under 2000kg as the 03 Rodeo has a tow rating of 2000kg.
Upon reading the vehicle handbook I find the GCM is only 3750 kg which means to tow 2000kg one would have to take the trayback off,&have no passengers or load at all.
It should be noted the later model 05 >07 which are a identical vehicle mechanically have a 4900 kg GCM.
I note a inmate on here WillV had a similar issue back in 07 &he claims to have sorted the issue with Holden.(Thread ID 50605)

I have contacted Customer Service at Holden HQ & they are very unhelpful.
I have talked it around with my local dealer rep who doesnt know where to go in the hierachy to get any satisfactory answer.

Is there anyone out there who knows how to get around this without swapping vehicles .
Any one know WillV?

Thanks Ray

Rodeo Specs

If it is a 92kw motor it seems to say you have the 4900 Limit

But - I would suggest if you wish to tow this weight you will need the better vehicle.

I have the 07 RA 3ltr common rail which can tow 3ton with a GCM of 5900kg

I do not like towing my boat too far which is just over the 2 ton mark, and when I tow it I would not load my vehicle to GVM (2900kg)

I tried this once - Car at full GVM and boat - Nearly killed it :-)

All the best - hope it works out

Cheers Tony

Thanks Tony ,yes I do appreciate it aint overpowered (96KW)
I wouldn't plan on loading the vehicle much, thinking a 1850 kg van +2600 kg Rodeo =4450 kg GCM

I was planning on a suck it &see approach to vanning & didn't want to lay out the $ for a tow vehicle til I was comfortable that we would keep on using the van.
Its just aggravating that obviously Holden didn't get the paperwork right at release of the RA & didn't bother corrrecting it retrospectively.
As it is now a 8 year old vehicle I guess its not really important issue to Holden.

Anyways keep the suggestions coming, Ray

Dont forget that your ballweight is part of the Rodeos allowable load.

Thanks snoopy ,yes I am allowing for the ball weight .
Theres no problem with the GVM .
Its the combination mass thats unsatisfactory.
It can legally tow 2000kg but if you load the vehicle to its 2900 kg GVM (including ballweight)then you can only have a van of GTM 850 kg (legally)
You can talk to Holden Customer service til your blue in the face & they will just refer to the handbook . Ray
