Has anyone had any first hand experience with a "STRAPRAT" HAND WINCH? If so, what are your thoughts.
For those who haven't come across them, it uses a webbing strap rather than a steel cable and has a handle which you push backwards and foward winding the strap on to the drum. It weighs 8 Kg and is quite compact. It claims 67 Kg of force will produce 2,500 Kg of pressure. It comes with a tree protector and 2 bow shackles. It's a bit like the tie down ratchets used on truck tie down straps.
They sell for $536.

Any real info would be appreciated. Thanks,

Mal T.

Don't know them. The Big Haul got a great write up a coupl'a months back. Compare them together.

Thanks for the reply Cocka. Is the "Big Haul" a similar system using a webbing strap rather than a stel cable? If so, does anyone know who sells Big Haul in Brisbane?

Thanks in anticipation,

Mal T.

They have the steel cable. The webbing would worry me a bit, scuffing on rocks, getting wet etc. The Big Haul is the same system as the tried and tested Turfor but is lighter and a hell of a lot cheaper. Try TJM.
I bought a set of Konig tyre chains and use them back or front depending on weather your ascending or decending tough slopes. The boys at Cape York Conections use 'em all the time as the preferred system for staying out of trouble. I've used them twice in very dodgy conditions, reacon I saved myself a heap of trouble each time. Only takes 5 mins to fit each one (before you get in trouble). When in doubt get 'em out.Carpe Diem

Gday Mal, the strap rat looks like it would indeed work but it can only pull for a very short distance before you have to undo it and re adjust the strap ( same as any ratchet tie down ). It is made by evercam who also make the mud mauler chain winch, do a forum search for this little item as a few of us checked them out and actually found that the unit they are selling as a 4.4 t winch actually is only good for about 1.2 t at best. ARB are now selling a 'tirfor' type cable block which is rated at 1.6 t lifting and retails for $ 400. Do some research on the strap rat regarding NATA testing and lifting ratings and approvals before you hand over your dosh. Hope this heads you in the right direction, Brad.Moo... everyone knows what a Jackaroo looks like :-)
