Over the last few months I have been planning our trip to the simpson desert. 1 month of touring around the red centre finishing with a crossing of the Simpson Desert. Sounds good doesn't it. With 70 days to go until we leave we have now had to cancel the whole trip.

The reason for this is that we just found termites in our house. Need all the money and time I can get to fix the damage etc. Really bleep off about this. Have been thinking about this trip ever since we got home from Cape York in 2009.

Lets hope next year will be better in the holiday department.

On a side note we still want to take the kids camping for a few days. Any suggestions of remote camping within 4-6 hours from NSW central coast. Don't like crowds and it will be school holidays.

Hi Stew,

They are pesky little devils. While you are sleeping they are busy at work 24/7

Sorry to hear you have had to cancel there mate. They can do some damage when they put their minds to it.

Life's a bummer some times.

Cheers, Bruce.

Yes!!! Great suggestion Phillip, I can second it. The Park is awesome as is a trip "next door" to Siding Springs Observatory. Also there is/was a place in Coonabarabran called Skywatch that is worth the effort!

Cheers

Brian

PS, Sorry to hear of the termites Stew......

Yep where slow at working out selecting the right building materials,Termites have been around for thousands of years i'd imagine.......So your house is thirty odd years old like mine (only speculating),The good stuff they used then lasted, now it seems useless or next too...

Glad to see there finally building units around my area with treated pine studs etc, although steel looks better to me.

They also say 2/3rds of houses are infested in my area....

When i see houses built with standard untreated pine i cringe....Especially when i see the annual termite flyoff..

Hope its not to expensive for ya...

Hi Stew,
That is bad.
Hopefully you can still get away for a few days.
We are at Wyong and find that Coolah Tops is an OK drive from Central Coast. (4 to 6 hours depending how fast you travel) Good camping sites. Even at Easter time it is not too bad. Take some warm gear. It gets mighty chilly at night time up there.
Good luck,
Sally

Hi Stew.

Coolah Tops NP, out near Duneedoo, is a great place to camp. Not many people get out there, great views from three lookouts, wildlife. There atre a couple of old huts that can be used for camping for free, plus one that costs and is often booked. Thta's my favourite NP and we live on the Central Coast. It's about 4 hours away off the Golden Hwy to Dubbo from Singleton.

Hi Stew,
Not far from Colah Tops (mentioned above) is Goulburn River National Park. It is North of Mudgee on Mogo Road (which heads out of a little town called Wollar.
There are two camping areas but see if you can drive the 1km 4wd track (easy) to Big River Camping ground. Its great!
