Hi there.
I'm rebuilding my M6000 Warn winch and need to find out the specifications for the old 2040 solenoids used as they are no longer available from Warn any more but I hope to source them elsewhere if I can find out the specs.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Michael

you could do a Google search or go to ebay or contact Tigerz11 they are very helpful and will have what you want.

Thanks.
I've been corresponding with Warn in the US, searched eBay and have sent numerous emails to heavy duty electrical wholesalers, but have yet to get the actual specs which would allow me to get them more easily.

Hi , i have replaced my soleniods with the one that Terrain tamers use easy to fit and you only use 3 wires from the control its a better system than the warn
as it only uses 2 solenoids one for in & one for out & costs about $100.

Hi dry lake racer.
Did you have an older warn winch also? Mine uses 3 wires only.
How did you work out how to wire up the 2 new solenoids? Can I ask how it's a better system than the warn?
Many thanks,
Michael

Hi, my old warn had 4 seperate solenoids with five wires going to the hand piece and required 2 solenoids to energise to engage the motor, switching earths & actives
with the teraim tamer solenoid it had an earth wire going to the solenoid pack and three small wires coming off it, when you connect your battery to the main connectors on the soleniod pack one of the small wires becme live
( 12v+ ) which this goes to the common wire on the hand piece and when you flick the switch one way or the other the switch just connects the common wire to one of the other wire and puts power onto one of the solenoids, if winch tuns wrong direction just swap over other two wires,
now i only have 2 solenoids one for in & one for out & only require one active wire to energise either solenoid, hope this helps. Martin

Well I finally managed to educate myself in the mysterious world of electricity and get the winch going.
I have to say the back up from Warn in the US was great, especially considering the winch was made in 1992 and the solenoids are no longer available through Warn. Despite that they emailed me circuit diagrams, service manuals, solenoid specs and websites where to obtain after market solenoids. The people at Ateco in Sydney were also most helpful in their advice and finally I was directed to Duncan Scott at Macquarie 4x4 who guided me through the diagnostics, rang me on a busy day before the Easter break. I think for this backup alone I would consider buying a Warn winch (maybe not new - out of my budget).
A frustrating thing I found out the hard way is that after testing each solenoid individually and them working, when I put them together no go. I finally realised that bench testing a winch needs an earth wire from the solenoid pack back to the battery as they normally earth through the chassis. Interestingly no diagrams showed this nor was it mentioned by anyone.
Many thanks for the assistance and if anyone needs any info on this topic I think I may be able to help.
