Just wondering why we are paying so much for diesel here in Adelaide at the moment. Was $1.65 a litre this afternoon at BP. Speaking to my son in Ohio USA a ltttle while ago and the price there last night was 99 cents a litre which is about 97 cents Australian at the moment. I hate to be cynical, but are we being ripped off - AGAIN.

I agree-whats the point in complaining about the most expensive fuel supplier? Let your wallet do the talking and support an independant supplier instead.

Gull in Geraldton 151.5?

Temora the other day when I went through was $1.57. West Wyalong 60km up the road was the same price. Exactly half way between the two is Bardmedman, who is $1.88. 30cents more for 30km.

No competition around the Wagga Wagga area, and none of this up and down prices the cities seem to get. (something about weekly cycle of oil prices.)

Shell on Hancock Road at Surrey Downs had it for $1.43 last night. Most of the ones near us (Paradise) are at $1.55.

Last night, most servos put their ULP prices up to within a cent or two of diesel prices.

Why is it so expensive compared to the US? One word...taxes.

Fab (I feel your pain).

Over here in Sunny Scotland,

Diesel is £1.42.
ULP is £1.36, and
LPG is .77p a litre.

Cheers,
Dennis

Well, got the expected response. Lot of assumptions go on here. I merely asked the question - I did not buy the fuel but merely drove past and asked the question here. Saw it much cheaper today and still I have not bought it.

I get diesel at the BP Truck stop on South Road (near Torrens Rd) or the new servo on Sir Donald Bradman Drive near South Rd. The latter sells Ultimate diesel for a few cents cheaper than most. I filled up with BP Ultimate last week for $1.51.9.
We're lucky the Aussie $ is so high.

Our VW needs at least 51 Cetane, and BP is the only one have 51 cetane. They also don't use biofuels.
Shell is 49 and Caltex only guarantee the minimum of 46, and don't supply any info on their website about Vortex diesel.

And I buy BP because they have nothing to do with the Woolworth/Coles attempts to rule the world!

I think you get what you pay for.

Port Lincoln Caltex has Diesel for $1.55 and the BP has $1.59. The servos from here to the WA border range from the above through to $2.00 to $2.04 at the border. Nundroo is the cheapest on the way at around $1.57 (when I came through).
If we are going to have unrest in rhe Middle East and a strong dollar, what can anyone do?
Add to that the fact that servos who have no competition can do what they like. I suspect that there is collusion in the bigger towns/cities between the servos anyway.

51 Cetane - Yeah, didn't bother me - BP guarantees the quality of their fuels. Heaps of BP stations around Adelaide - they seem to be supported by the growing numbers who don't like woolworths/coles. We refuse to use the discount fuel dockets.

But we only do 10,000k per year in the VW which is only 10 tankfuls!!!

Good on you for boycotting Coles & Woolworths fuel outlets.
Anyone that uses fuel discount vouchers is delusional & playing straight in to the supermarket trap!
If everybody has the intelligence to avoid these outlets the price of fuel would drop overnight.

interesting to hear all the prices out there, we sell ULP (Opal) at $1-81 .... we have to store 140,000L of the "stuff" to survive the wet, you can work that out... it costs us a fortune just to keep the stuff...
We also HAVE to buy it from Adilaide as that is the only place that sells Opal and we have to freight it all the way up here, we are 500klms from Mt Isa and it has to go there first, to Cloncurry and up to us ......
Yet we get people complaining that our fuel is to expensive, we paid more for our fuel last week than we retailed it for 2 years ago.....

All i can add to it is please support the remote guys even if it is more as they are not exactly making a "killing" as some would assume, if you dont then they will simply close up and the next raft of complaints will be that you cant buy fuel out bush like you used to, ok it may cost $400 to 500 more for the trip, think how much it will cost if you have to set up your cars to do 2000klms for each fuel fill and the fuel it uses just to lug it around and when it cracks and you lose it, well down the drain goes all your savings and that by the way is quite common......
Cheers guys...
Joe

Hi Long tooth,

From all the reports it is to do with the troubles in the middle east.
More excuse than reality IMHO.
In BPs case it also has to do with the big cleanup bill they have had to pay for the rig spill in America.

If you ask me it has more to do with the fuel companies price gouging as usual.

Oh! and lets not forget it is a long weekend and a big one at that.

There are more than enough reasons in those few. Without being on the board of these fuel companies, all we have is conjecture.

Cheers, Bruce
