Have just returner from 6 days on Fraser Island where the weather was great and the 4x4 even better. For a change we stuck to the western side the beaches where the best, not a sole there and the water as clear as a bell ,had to winch myself out of a bog hole going up to Moon point. One thing I came across a GU which had lost his rear wheel not checking after changing a wheel.

Could not believe the line waiting to get on the ferry on the news last night. People interviewed had been waiting hours. Bob.

Thats because most people choose to use Manta Ray barges and ignore the kingfisher run one. Its busy going over but not too bad as its spread out over a few days, unfortunately everyone seems to want to go
home on the same day, so you get a queue. There are however much worse
places to wait :)
Kingfisher would like to see all private 4x4 banned so you have to their barge, their busses and their resort. They've played silly buggers in the past trying to run manta ray out of business and take a strangle hold on Frazer Is, seems people still have a long memory and a sense of fair play.

exactly the reason i chose Manta Ray over Kingfisher, i remember them trying to send Kosta broke with the barge war prices.
Kingfisher also owns the
Shell servo at
Rainbow, hence the reason i don't fuel up there and use the Matilda on
Tin Can Bay Rd or back at Kybong or the BP in
Rainbow.

We were up there end of March and had a ball although my mate got bogged on the way to Moon point in the mozzie breading area opening the door to go help out and you couldn't see out the other side of the cab with the amount of mozzies that came in. Our eldest then didn't like the place cos of the mozzies.

the week before
Easter was much more pleasant, very few people there considering it was school holidays, and then the crowds arrived on Good friday. i drove straight onto an empty barge Sunday when we arrived and had to wait 15 minutes until the barge filled up before we departed. same again when we left the next Sunday morning, though it was only 3 vehicles on the return run.
first vehicle to drive through
our camp looking for somewhere to set up on Friday, was at 6.00 a.m, every 20 - 30 minutes a new wave of vehicles would head past up
the beach looking for campsites.
we left Sunday morning as we'd had enough of the crowds, the week before was good enough for us.

We are going up there on the 6th June. I was going to take the ferry from the southern end
Rainbow Beach and then travel up the east coast of Fraser Island. We will be taking a camping trailer with us.
Wife wants a few nights at Kingfisher Resort although I have heard mixed reports about it.
Should not be too crowded that time of the year.
Cheers
Wayne
