Hi to all,
My partner and I are planning a 6-month trip across the top end (mainly the
Kimberley), within the next year or two.
After tenting for the last dozen+ years we are now thinking about a camper-trailer/caravan for ease of daily set-up and towing, etc.
Our current thinking is towards the 'new' cross-over campers, viz.
Kimberley-Karavan, AOR Quantum, Vista RV, Track-Trailer Topaz, and/or ??.
I have been looking at a few forums re owners experiences, however have not been able to find much that is recently posted (mainly "...about to purchase" or "...have just purchased", etc.)
Thanks in advance for any feedback on reasons for purchase, experiences (+ & -), etc.
cheers
freshy

If I had the money I'd buy a
Kimberley Karavan. We followed one of these through all the
creek crossings on
Cape York last year and I was just amazed at how easily it could go anywhere! Good luck with your purchase!

Thanks Frances for your prompt response! This is the only type of "cross-over" that I have actually seen at a
camp-site (several years back) - perhaps its been around for a bit longer than the others ?? Yes, I was suitably impressed but wasn't looking for this type of camper at the time so didn't really quiz the owner on the 'in-and-outs"...

Just adding to the list
Conqueror UEV-490
We have just got one. Pretty happy with it.
Have looked at VistaRV - these are nice too.
The Topaz, Quantam, Karavan are all probably at the larger end in the size scale. When I saw the Topaz at
camping show, it was huge.
From what I have seen, they are all good products.
You need to decide if you want inside toilet/shower and kitchen first....
Cheers,
Pete

Thanks Pete, yes I have seen a you-tube clip on this one - originates from South Africa I believe. I have a Serengeti tent, also from S.Africa and have been very impressed with it!
Inside or outside kitchens? Toilet/shower? Bed can stay made-up?
Water carrying capacity? Fridge type/size? Suspension/towing attributes? electrics? etc.,etc. AND (that rarest of commodities!) $$ cost.
All of these and more! to weigh-up and prioritise before a final choice.
At this stage just interested in hearing people's experiences (+ & -) with all of these campers from the different manufacturers.
Thanks again for your input!

Hi aquanova,
We own a Topaz and we love it. here are some of the reasons we bought it, your needs may be different to ours or
mine.
I wanted a kitchen I could
cook inside if the need arises as i react badly to insect bites of any kind.
The bed was to remain made up
i needed to be able to get out of the insects if need be
was happy to have the shower outside so it didn't take up too much room
it hade to be 4x4
lots of storage for my hubbys funstuff
if you want any more info chase me up happy to talk to you

Hi Barb
Thanks for your input. I like the idea of an inside kitchen for cooking with(out) mossies and midges as
well !
Have seen the Topaz only via website, although have seen the T-van but thought it was too small internally. How do you find the East-West bed?
Was up your way
camping @ at Woody Head last year -Yamba/Iluka a lovely spot!

Hi Aquanova,
We are quite happy with it so far, our other caravans had a north south bed but evrything is going
well so far. If you are up this way get in touch and you can a look in real life.
