GCR update

just a quick update on the GCR. Steady rain today between here and Laverton has seen parts of the road turn very slippery, with some very soft boggy sections, and alot of water on the road at Lake Throssel 40 - 50 km;s from the roadhouse (West).
Weather should start clearing from the West tomorrow and won't take long for the road to dry up again. Although some washouts and corrugations will still be a pain.
Areas East of the roadhouse will probably get some rain over the weekend as well..

Thanks for that update I'm sure everyone appreciates your input and that of others in remote areas,

I wonder why it took 12 hours for someone to reply???

no worries Jeff and Wizzer. I know how frustrating it can be to try and get up to date road conditions when travelling, so like to try and keep it up to date.

Cheers

As expected the road from here to Laverton is now closed to all vehicles.
The road is like a skating rink at the moment, very slippery in spots.

Hi Al,

Looks like we made it through at the right time!!

We found the corrugations not too bad on the WA side, there was a water crossing just before Warburton that still had a reasonable amount of water. The NT side had a lot more corrugations and some soft sandy spots and was slower going, but was dry at the time.

Cheers,

Michael

You sure did Michael!! That'd be the work of the great trip leader..lol

shouldn't be closed for long hopefully, more dry weather is forecast after the weekend and that'll help.
East of us hasn't seen much rain at all, so should still be ok.

Cheers

I just made it as well. Pumped up the tyres in Laverton then the rains started and didn't stop all night.
Thanks for the burgers too. Definately not something to tackle while driving. You need to supply instructions on how to eat it. The missus and I looked at it for a couple of minutes wondering where to start but once started couldn't stop.

rains stopped now, started clearing last night, and there's a good breeze to go with it, should dry things up pretty quick..

Hi Al & Serena,
Just another thank you for your help and hospitality yesterday during and after the rain . We past the council road assessor just as we cleared the last of the flooded road. The trucks certainly don't do the track any favours when it's wet. Was plain sailing from there on. we will be back

Cheers Col, nice to meet you all :-)
Glad you had a good trip, and you got home safely . The road should hopefully reopen to 4wd this morning. Will know shortly. There are now a couple of trucks stuck here that may be here for a week or more.
We also have a large group of 4wd'ers that have been stuck here for the last 2 days and are eager to get moving again.
On the plus side the weather has cleared right on schedule.
