Hi all,
I have posted this previously but thought I'd throw it out there again as I am still having troubles.
We are towing a 25ft Jayco around OZ in a 100 series Landcruiser.
We have a Voyager braking system.
Does anyone else need to wind back their brakes when around towns or parks?

I have numerous people adjust and set up the system.
It is fine for highway driving, however when I slow down around towns or pulling into a park the brakes become very grabby to the point of almost locking up.

I was wondering if this is normal and if it is a case of me needing to wind them back when in town or pulling into a park?

Cheers

Is that just the control unit I had a prodigy on my van followed the set up instructions and didn't have to touch it again but the idiot that fitted the unit for me put it on about a 75deg angle when I read the manual it said no more than 30 deg or something from memory so I changed it If I didn't I wonder if it could have failed or affected it's operation because they were specific about the angle it was set up at it the book

The manual I have says the Prodigy can be mounted from 0 to 70deg from horizontal. Mine is mounted on the panel under the dash next to the steering wheel on a 100 ser and performs perfectly.

They self adjust to the angle so doesnt matter much.

Hi Clint and Chell,

The Voyagers had a bad reputation about 4 years ago such that I was advised not to touch them and advised to go for the Prodigy. Did so and ...in a word... brilliant. And that was the early Prodigy. Not the P3 which is even better.

Your Voyager may be a later model but it would appear that they still have problems .... from your post.

My advice is to save yourself a lot of angst and get the P3.

Provided your setup is wired correctly the P3 will wire straight in under the dash using the same coloured wires as the Voyager.

What I do now is I get one of those large connectors with double with 4 connectors in a row and connect the vehicle wires in one side and that stays permanently with the car, and hook in the controller wires from the other side of the of the connector. If you do that it will be the least disturbance to your set up. Hook the connector in as you remove the Voyager. Then fit the Prodigy wires in to the connector. Will post a diagram for clarity.

P3 on Ebay last night at around $130 and rising slowly and in my opinion that is a lot of peace of mind for a small price.

These are my best thoughts on your problem.

Cheers, Bruce.

Should have added that the connectors can be purchased from supercheap.
They are double sided as shown in pic. Just cut the wires under the dash right behind the voyager and fit the connector in there then wire in the P3.

Hope this helps. Bruce.

Get a Prodigy which basically works like this.

Set it up as per the instructions

As it is a proportional system, the harder you decelerate the harder it brakes.

So round town it will just brake lightly

hit them harder it will do the same

It also has a boost function which can make the van brake fractionally sooner

than the car which is handy if van get a sway on, this will pull it back into line.

I'm off to get a Prodigy.
I will keep you posted.
