Image Could Not Be FoundTried to get a look at Big Red on 26/04/2011 and discovered an inland ocean (see the pictures). Might be a while before a crossing is possible, the locals reckon maybe the end of June.Image Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be FoundImage Could Not Be Found

Not yet but the local authorities are doing a research and a survey of the latest damage recorded in the Simpson. One photo filed was of a claypan crossing and bikes had cut the entire claypan up. So maybe it's not the traditional owners you should be worried about but all the damage being done while the deserts wet, it's all being recorded and no doubt a case will be put together and maybe another park closed, who will u blame the tradtional owners.

G'day Adrian, hows the trip going? Looks like a spot of replanning may be in order. I think this years unseasonal rains have stuffed up many plans but afforded unique experiences for many. See you in September.

G'day Dunc, trips going real well. Bit of a blow not being able to cross the Simpson but a real privilege to see that much water in it and Lake Eyre. Gill's doing a blog of the trip on here if you want to check our progress. Look forward to seeing you on Safari in September. Cheers Kanga

Hi Adrian

Sounds like you are having a ball. Your blogs are a great read and these pictures are great.

I hope the rest of the trip is great.

Cheers

Wow... great photos. We went out to Big Red in Sept of last year and it looked pretty much like your pix.

Amazing to think all that water is still sitting around.

Did you have to take the detour at the old fridge to get to the Big Red dune? I'm guessing YES judging by your 3rd photo which is almost identical to one I have.

Hi Fab, we couldn't actually get to Big Red, the furtherest that we could get was the Dune before Little Red, to photograph it. To get a pic of Big Red would have been a big walk/wade/swim through the mass of water to get to Little Red just for a pic of the big beggar. It was amazing to see that much water in a desert. Cheers, Kanga.
