Hello All,
In my travels, for work and pleasure, I have come across signs proclaiming certain towns to be the oldest gazetted town in that particular state.......But what are Australia's youngest towns by state?

Here in SA, I'm guessing it might be Roxby Downs. Am I right?

I'm reading a book ATM called "Outback Spirit" which mentions Mount Beauty in Vic as being established in 1945...that seems reasonably young too, but is there a town younger in Vic?

So what are the newest towns in each State/Territory? Does anyone know?

Fab.

That's two guesses for Moranbah then Doug... I was thinking the same as you.
Cheers....will do a wee bit more Googling on the subject.

The info doesn't seem to be readily available :(

Thanks guys...that'll give me something to read up about over the next few days at least.

Seems like most new towns being gazetted these days are borne out of the mining boom.

Thanks again.

Gooday,
Dysart and Glenden were both established well after Moranbah, both in the Coal Country in the Bowen Basin.

Tom Price & Para were "mining towns" before becoming "normalised" and turning them into towns ....... dont remember the dates but the Shire of Ashburton would be able to tell you that really quick.... Weipa probally was the same ..........
Talking of "towns", we just called into "Mary Kathleen" .. yes was also a "town", well worth a visit if you have seen the old photos it is different driving around the old roads eh... kids loved it
Cheers

Stayed at Glenden a couple of years ago. The caravan park has great spotless facilities, and is run by the mines. Ate in the miners mess very cheaply, and it was better than most top restaurants. If you're passing nearby, give it a go. Cheers.

Thanks Roger. Will keep that in mind.

When we're away, we tend to try and eat at local clubs rather than pubs and restaurants.

Suburban footy clubs, darts clubs, bowling clubs and even RSL's. Much cheaper, better crowd of people, way better food and the money goes back into supporting the local club which generally sponsors local charaties. Keeps the kids....and some big kids off the streets.

You may be right about Roxby Downs in SA Fab72. It was built in 1987, surveyed in 1986. A joint venture between the government and the mining company. We visited there for the first time about 3 weeks ago and it is quite a modern looking town. I looked it up on Wikipedia as i was intersted to find out a little more about the town. Truly amazed at the education available in the town from pre-school to TAFE. Not a bad little shopping centre and very neat housing areas and main street.
