Hi, We are in early stages of planing a trip to Tassie in the sep/oct school holidays and I am wanting to know what it would be like weather wise during this time, is it a good time of the year to be touring around with the family? We would most likley stick to the northern half of the state as we only will have 12 days there.

We will be bringing our own transport with camping gear in the trailer so any recomendations for free campsites would also be greatly appreciated.

thanks for your time

regards,Trevor

Hi Trevor

While we were not there in October, with the weather you never know. Our daughter worked there for a year and saw snow - in December!

My blogs here (2006 trip) show a little of what we saw of this amazing isle.

Tasmania is great for free campgrounds, but you cannot find places like you can on the mainland (no gravel pits of similar places to pull off the road). You need Camps Australia Wide to find the best ones.Places we stayed are reviewed at Tasmania - free and low cost camping

Trevor,

September is one of our windiest months. The weather at that time of the year is most unpredictable.

We usually go up to The Bay of Fires for a couple of weeks over this time of the year. To give you an example, last year we had to take down the annex as it was going to be shredded with the amount of wind.

A couple of years ago we had snow on the mountain (Wellington).

I don't want to make it sound "horrible" all of the time because it can also be evenly shared with bright sunny, summer like days.

If you are prepared for the variety of weather patterns and plan suitable things to do on those days, you will have a great time.

Regards
