We caught 6 of these in the Norman River in
Normanton in 1968. Biggest one measured 6 feet tip to tail. Put 5 back and kept one for eating. Fed a whole caravan park with good white meat. They were full of Roe so must come up the river to breed I suspect. Great fun trying to get them in as
well.

1968 ???? thats a long time ago.....
Funny you say that, over the years it has been the "catch cry" that "catty" taste like mud and i will admit the ones i had tryed had tasted like mud, that was until we were living in
Maningrida and fishing out at the old barge landing up the river for "jewie", there was one of the local guys there and he caught a nice sized Jewie and proceeded to cut it up for bait, as he explained to catch them "sea catfish", and he did just that and threw the remains of the jewie back in the water, i simply could not belive it that he would do that, a few trips later and we caught a nice big, big catty and said to the missus that we will keep this one to try to see if it is any better, we filleted it and it was one of the better fish i have ever eaten, firm white meat, NO muddy taste would have beaten barra at the time......
Cheers

Caught a cattie today in the
Cairns Inlet. I always take them to eat. No size & bag limit, I just rip off the fillets to satisfy the fishos and skin them when I get
home. I usually bleed them in a bucket of water after catching.
As my old Grant's Guide says, "a much maligned eating fish".

Was fishing in the Dunham river near
Kununurra when we lived up there and came across half a cat fish about that size laying on the bank. Looked like a croc had the other half for tea.
Best I caught up there was a catty about 3 ft long.

You should have seen the Missus eyes light up when they nibbled on her toes at
Lawn Hill. Never seen her swim so quick.
