Gday,
Whats the latest in 12 volt lighting?
Its time to update my lights as they are all getting a bit dim and unreliable.
I used to have a fluro mounted under the top of the lift up window (tailgate) on my 80 series but its had it.
It was a twin fluro rechargeable light that I could recharge from a cigarette plug mounted near my fridge plug. The only problem with it was you couldnt use the light while it is charging which was quite often when I wanted it and they didnt seem to last long.
I also have tried a few led's without much sucess.
I made a 12v light out of an old bed side reading lamp with one of those energy saving globes in it for my camper which works a treat, but dont think it would be durable enough to mount in the back of the car.

Does anyone know of a 12volt rechargeable light that sounds suitable and can be used while charging if it goes flat?

Cheers

Hairy, if the light above the tailgate is permanently mounted there, why do you need batteries? Could it not be a simple light always connected to the cigar socket? This would simplify the management and open up more choices for selecting a light.

Gday,
Im trying to avoid running wires through to the tailgate and dont really want to run it off the car battery while its not running except when if it goes flat.

Hiya Bud

Its a mine field out there when it comes to 12volt lighting...L.E.D seems to be the way people are going but some still like the flouro's.....A mate bought a l.e.d light/torch on special for $38 reduced from $60 from Repco and said it worked really well in Robe over Easter,Derek sells something very similar....Coleman have a new range of Pod like L.E.D's Coleman led

4x4Equip hav the new strip lighting Strip Lighting as well as there range of Versa Lights Flouro L.E.D,rechargable 4x4equip

Me i just prefer my Coleman Northstar: Northstar EI Dual Fuel

and all my incab and canopy lights are l.e.d because the rocky/shaley driving used to shake the hell out of the globes,i havnt replaced one since.

Its all about how much $$$$$$$$ you wanna spend mate..

Hi Hairy,
I got a set of 4 of these from Ebay for $70.
http://shop.ebay.com.au/i.html?_nkw=led+lights+12+volt&_sacat=0&_odkw=led+lights&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

Or do a search LED 12 volt.

Put 2 in the van and one inside the house for semi subdued lighting instead of the double 4 foot fluoro.

For reading I think a fluoro is probably slightly better but you can read by these things quite well.

Have a look on Ebay there are about 5 thousand or more items for sale in the way of LED. Of course you already know that LEDs use much less power than fluoros of a similar light output. Don't even think incandescent (normal bulbs like tail light bulbs) they are power thirsty devils.

Cheers, Bruce.
