Hi Mick1234,
If you are in and around
Melbourne, go to G&S Chassis in Thomastown. They have good units that bolt onto the back rail of the caravan.
Cheers
Racey

i bought
mine from Aussie Disposals
camping store on The Goldcoast but they have stores elsewhere aswell.
http://www.aussiedisposals.com.au/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?osCsid=2ebd4828b45d6408b7e791ab98d78be9&keywords=jerry+can+holder&x=2&y=4
if that link doesn't work then goggle Aussie Disposals and when you are on their webpage just search Jerry Can Holder and it'll come up
here is a better pic then the one on the website of what they look like.....
not sure how noticable it is, but there's a chain to lock the jerry cans in place aswell.

mine are usually full of
water, but even when they've had fuel in them, i've never had any stolen. i'm sure it happens, but whenever there's fuel in my holder, i'm not anywhere near a town where that will be happening anyway.

Have travelled carrying the jerry cans on the back of our caravan but stopped using them as in most if not all states in Australia they are illegal, and when you really think about it its quite obvious having all that fuel out the back and if you have some wally go up the back of your van......bad outcome! Now the argument goes on ,that diesel is ok and not petrol ,not the case from what i have investigated, you could use the different coloured jerry cans you can buy now if you are using diesel and keep you fingers crossed, you can mount them up front on the draw bar if you have room, have seen that.We have been right around Aust and up the middle and never been stopped, its your call,PS I have 2 sets now going spare as our new Jayco has a round rear bumper !!!

Hi
Ross & Cushla. Are you able to advise the law that makes carrying fuel on the back of a caravan illegal? I ask as I have seen this discussed on other
forum but have never found anyone who can quote the legislation and when it became effective.

Hi Kevin, No ,like you it was general comment among fellow caravaners, but, when you think about it the general handling and carriage of dangerous goods, logically it would seem to be apperent that the placing of a unprotected container in the "Line of fire" so to speak would put the placement of containers out back asking for trouble.
Its up to the individual,we stopped using ours, funnily enough the really bad time we had in coming to running out of fuel {our bad planning]was in victoria where we asummed small towns would have petrol stations but they had closed down !!

You started off with a specific statement that said "Have travelled carrying the jerry cans on the back of our caravan but stopped using them as in most if not all states in Australia they are illegal"
I am not debating the pros and cons of spare fuel cartage. I was simply querying the accuracy of what appeared to me to be a fairly unequivocal statement about the legality of jerry cans on the rear of a vehicle.

Found archives thread 14646,it has a lot of info covering the various states , basically it all comes down to "Duty of care",AND your caravan insurance could be affected. If the thread does not open go on to Google and search there under dangerous goods transportation in Australia.
