Hi guys, damn this site, came here to ask a question and got carried away reading others problems again....and i thought i was addicted to chat rooms...HA !!!
Anyway, my question is... Was the 1997 GQ sold as a 4.2 diesel OR did the 4.2 Diesel only make it into the 1996 model GQ, Ive been looking around for weeks now for a 4.2 1997 diesel and i havent come across one, someone mentioned that the 4.2 was not available in the 1997 GQ.
Silly me thought it was available, as i have seen many tray backs selling with the 4.2 Turbo Diesels engine, so i figured if the ute does then so would the rest...maybe im wrong. Anyone care to fill me in ?

90% sure they didnt make it to 97 in the TD42... One of them Gregories manuals at Big W would tell you.. as would a call to Nissan Dealer..
If they did, they are rarer than rocking horse shiat...

coke addict,
the 1997 model GQ certainly did come out with the 4.2L diesel because i have just purchased one. it is a fantastic vehicle and i would reccomend one to any one who is having doubts whether to get a 2.8L turbo.my local nissan dealer says that the TD42 engines are almost bulletproof and i tend to agree.i feel that the nissan patrols are better value for money than a the toyota landcruiser, and definately a few thousand dollars cheaper, for the same year model with similar mileage.
hope this helps

I recall that the GU came out late 97 in petrol and 2.8 diesel, with the 4.2 diesel DX in early 98. So I'd guess that Nissan kept supplying GQ diesels till late 97. But then they might have wanted to run stocks out early...

Cokeaddict,
The GQ's did come out in 97 with the 4.2 diesel, i own one, build date is Jan 1997 and compliance date is May 1997, so they are out there, just a bit rare from the sounds of it. Mines the base model DX if that helps at all.

Voxson,
The rear windows in my '97 DX are one piece to, and i would assume this is standard for the base model, its cheaper for the manufacturer than the two piece, hence making it a cheaper vehicle and less "luxurious" than the ST's etc.
