Is the French Line + QAA open to Birdsville West - East?

Hi, We are approx 8wks from our plan to cross the Simpson and l hear that its all closed currently with metres of water between the dunes, even the bypasses are flooded. Can anyone confirm? Also from anyone's experience could it be possible to this area to recover in time? Regards Kabo

Kabo,

The Simpson Desert is open right through to Poeple Corner, the QAA line in Queensland is closed due to flooding & may not open until late June.

MM,

Yep, there have been at least three groups out to Poeple Corner in the last couple of weeks, there was water in Lake Poeple & some of the smaller lakes.

A helicopter dropped in last Thursday for fuel & the pilot said there is a huge amount of water between Birdsville & Poeple Corner.

The Desert is blooming with all sorts of growth, the sand is firm in most places, the ridges are sharp & steep from the west.

There are a couple of groups out there at the moment & a group of motorcyclists here as well, leaving for the Simpson tomorrow.

Thanks for the info Jeff

We're due out there at the end of June heading for Birdsville.

Seems we won't know if we can cross Eyre Creek until we actually get to Mt Dare.

I can feel a Mt Dare session coming on.........
