I've just have a rego check today intending to transfer rego from NSW to QLD on a Troopie 1HZ.
Mechanic wants 3 engineering plates on a simple turbo installation. 2 Stratos seats that replaced std drivers and passenger twin seat. and non-standard steering wheel.
All mods where done in Sydney ARB over last 3 years.
Did I make a mistake at time of fitment to not get plates or is this QLD mechanic taking me for a ride?
Thanks
Eric

Don't know about NSW regs but those things certainly require blue plates (enginerring approvals) in Queensland.

Welcome to the Smart State.

Hi Eric,
You should only need one blue mod plate fitted for these mod's as several codes can be added to a plate. You dont have a long range tank fitted you? would need that done as well.

Hi Eric

I agree with Lex All those modifications require a blue mod plate in QLD

No big drama. Plenty of mobile blokes do this work. You should be able to do a deal getting three together. They usually cost about $ 90-00 each.

Cheers Teza

I doubt that those mods would have required engineering in NSW.

If you transfer vehicle from QLD you will need engineer certificate for the non factory turbo and the seat, steering wheel will be ok the reason you have not needed it already is because the vehicle was already registered in NSW when modifications where done. Thanks Graham

It's not an engineering feat or examination you require, it merely a modification plate for any changes you have done that are not the manufacturers or not complying to the ADR's for the vehicle.

There are many available mechaniclaltrade related people/businesses with the expertise and approval to issue you with a "blue' modification plate for your respective modifications made to your troopy.

They are not expensive, usually under $100 or a bit above, possibly depnenant on the modification and time required to ensure its compliance, suitability and safety.

As much as it might seem a pain for a southerner, just remember, you won't have to do another inspection process in it's life until you resell the vehicle..or let the rego lapse and have to re register it.....how dumb is that...lol..

Have a look here for some info on the process..and go visit the qlddtmr website.

Hi Joe, you require a modification plate as the vehicle has been altered from standard, but not enough to require an engineers certificate.
It is no major drama, you can do the mods yourself then just take the vehicle to be inspected and the plate added.
After I fitted the turbo, intercooler and long range tank to my 80 series, I took it to ARB who looked it over, stamped and fitted the mod plate. ARB also sent the paperwork to Dept of Transport, cost around $80.

If ARB has done all the work, then they should all the paperwork.
It should just be a piece of paper, to get your "blue plates".

After all, all those bits added have been engineered, and fitment has been done by qualified people..

Also would have thought that the yearly roadworthy needed to attain your NSW Rego, would have noted the modifications, with certificates.

Cheers
Bucky

epagets

I really feel sorry for you.

I transfered my rego from NSW to NT for 15 months then when I got back to NSW I had to get a blue slip for the troopy.

Thats when the trouble started. They would not pass the troopy because it had an after market turbo and Turboglide did not have a certificate to give because for them to get certified it would cost too much they recommended that I take the turbo off, get it registered, then put the turbo back on.

Thats exactly what I ended up doing as the cost to do the exhaust tests etc would have been about $2500.

I got it reinstalled the day after I got it registered.

Well I got the inspection done. Provided the mechanic with the reciepts for the work,.
And he charged me $75 ea for turbo and seats.
Mark Weber got a lot of flack about his Nanny state comment last year. But he's dead right.
Thanks for all the help.
