Oodnadatta Track Feedback

We are 3 families that are planning a trip on the Oodnadatta Track between William Creek and Marla in September 2011. We would just like to know about firewood availability. Do we collect next to the road? Can we buy at William Creek ?
Thank you

hi

Ive done "the track" about 6 times over the years never had a worry with wood theres alway something the burn plenty of railway sleepers that for sure not sure if you should burn them but theres plenty laying around one thing thow you might have to pick them up when you see them as nearer to the comon campsites they might be a bit light on the ground aprt from that there plenty to see and you will have a great time enjoy

OMW I said between William creek and Marla... I meant between William Creek and Marree... but I guess the same goes for the firewoord on that side of the track.

Yep, not a problem, plenty about but you may have to walk 100 meters or so to get the sleepers.
Cheers

Baz... Nice to see you said walk. Those railway spikes like tyres, and there's plenty of them lying around.

Fab.

Not wanting to Hijack the thread, but I'm after some feedback concerning travelling times for the track. What I'm after is the track conditions at the moment (or estimated for the dates), and approximate driving times from Marree to Oodnadatta, Oodnadatta to Alice. We would be travelling approximately 7th 8th 9th June with a Toyota Troopy towing a camper tailer. Thanks in advance

OK, just saw the new article on the track. Seems we'd be better off spending more time on it to see more. Unfortunately we have to be in Alice by the 9th, so might have to give it a miss this time.
