Hi all just recently purchased a 1992 hilux 2.8 diesel with an after market turbo and intercooler. Doing my first service and have no info on oil amounts for my new ride. Just would like to know what sort of oil to run 20w-40? and how much with a new filter my hilux will take before i go and buy. Also i am in Tasmania so cold weather for the next few months. Cheers

Also its the 3L LN106R engine to make things easier.

If its going to be cold I would be going 15-40. Any reputable brand Penrite, valvoline Castrol are all good. Main thing with that model is to do the changes every 4000ks as they have a tendency to glug up the oil and block an oil galley. Al though the turbo should help minimise soot in the oil.

Thanks mate. Also any idea on the amount. Only ask because i had a surf before the aussie model. Not the best call ever. But the beast ate 7.5 litres to fill her up. Lot of oil. Was told the 3L only needs about 5.

Yeah I think you are right, but to be sure buy 10l, then you will have some for top ups. The fact they only had a small sump may have been why they glugged the oil up. But a good old beast if well serviced. Brother now wished he never sold his,and brought as zd30 Navara. His old Lux is still going well , while the navara has cost him thousands. But he could not be told.

Great thanks mate. Yeah I would have been backing the option of keeping a lux over a navara but each to there own. Obviously you like to fish if you havent been to Tassie yet make the effort to come down in trout season. You wont regret it.

Oboe the Navara had about 150000 less ks on it, but still a piece of doo doo.
Been to Tassie three times, got a couple of fishing mates in Launceston as well. I love it down their, but getting to old now to walk into the remote back country lakes. I am also a member on Tacklebox which is a fishing forum, same screen name.

Hi Oboe

I thought this topic sounded familiar, so had a look back in the archives. Here is a copy and paste from the thread I found.
