Just to let people know the roads are slowly opening up.We are at 'ELIM' camping on the water,what a great spot.Tomorrow head for weipa via lakeland and maybe on the way back from the tip Lakefield will be open they are out working on the roads for the last week.

Hi I live in Weipa they have just started the road works this week from the Weipa end ..

ELIM is east of Hopevale Aboriginal Community and takes about 90 minutes to get there from Cooktown.

Good luck with the trip. Can't wait to see your posts as we're trying to decide whether to keep planning our trip for mid-May or whether it's too wet to get a good trip to the Cape this year.

Hi All,in weipa atm the roads are in pretty good condition except for maybe 40-50km .Just got off the phone to cook roads and the road to the tip is open but not the OTL yet maybe on the way back.Weather in weipa is great. Will give you another update from up the top on the 16th.Grant

Thanks Grant! Will continue to keep track of your progress. If you can't get through the OTL, would love to know if you thought the trip was still worth doing on the bypass roads. By cook roads do you mean Cooktown main roads???
