Good morning all,
I have purchased a Barrett 2050 radio complete with auto tune antenna.I intend to install it in my gu patrol. Can anyone offer any advice on the best way to install this. The autotune antena i would like to locate on a bracket on the back door.I believe you can purchase a special bracket for this purpose.I live in Mandurah WA so anyone know where i could purchase a bracket close to home.Any advise on the installation would be a great help.

Go and see Barrett - they are in
Perth. Probably every chance they have a bracket to suit your GU.

Make sure you use the huge fuse which is supplied with the unit.
Also make sure you run the antenna cabling and the power cabling down seperate sides of the vehicle to reduce interference.
The antenna joiner needs to be out of the weather, inside the vehicle is a nice dry place.

Yes....and its worth noting that the door itself is not a good earth.
If Dennis were to use one of the door hinge bolts that attach the rear door hinge to the vehicle's body, then he'll have the best earth.

Dennis,
Electric Bug (SA) sell a bracket that mounts between the rear large
barn door and the tyre bracket. It will carry a Barrett or Codan auto.
It's a good unit and it has served me
well.
As noted earth everything on your vehicle, doors to body, bonnet to body, body to chassis and a very important aerial earth to the chassis.
I followed this advice from a very nice bloke on this
forum years ago which has allowed me very good comms all over Aus.
Make sure you run the power and control cables to the aerial on opposite sides of the vehicle.
Let me know if you need anymore assistance.
Cheers
Steve
