my parents have a 2001 GU patrol, and it appears that the heater core has gone (coolant leaking from the heater area). They were quoted approx $1300 for a replacement to be fitted, due to the complexity in getting to the core.
Just wondering:
- if anyone has done this themselves. If so, any tips/hints on dash removal?
- has anyone got access to the relevant sections of the workshop manual?
- what other parts should I be replacing while I'm at it?
I'm aware it's a fairly lengthy and tedious task, however I'll have a fair bit of time to do it, so I'm willing to have a go :)
Cheers

Hi Chris,
Gregory's do a limited Nissan manual (hard copy), but there are soft copy manuals available with much more detail, which should cover what you're after.
Shouldn't really mention this on here, but given the outrageous price that Nissan want for their manual (soft or hard copy), I feel no guilt. Do a Google search for "GU Patrol service manual". There are lots of download sites in the public domain.
cheers,
Gerry

Same thing happened in my GU and cost around $700 from memory. Quotes ranged from around $1500 to the price that I got.

Chris!! Does the GU have a heater tap to cut off the hot water or does it just use a flap tp isolate the hot heater core!! I know earlierToyotas have a bad habit of taps failing and it is a matter of changing a $50 Tap unit.. Just a thought.. Michael
