it's got nothing really to do with the max wattage inverter it's more about what you want to run from it and how many amps they will draw from your battery. If you are only going to run laptop/phone chargers then you can get away with a very small one.
I use a 1000w inverter mainly for the toaster and that draws 60amps/hour but toast only takes 2 min so I only use a small amount of battery storage. The larger the inverter the bigger the wiring gets as
well.

Hi Louise,
Laptops phones camera batteries etc can all be charged from your vehicles 12 supply. Have a look
here at our Electricity for
camping blog for more info.
Cheers,
Val.

I use a 300w inverter to charge my laptop / camera's etc. Cost me about $80. I normally charge everything while driving to minimise drain on aux bat.

Far safer to charge stuff from car chargers raather than have 240 volts floating around in a vehicle.
Spill a drink on it and you will see what I mean.
Or have an accident and Paramedics cant get in because car is alive.
An extra wire feeding some ciggy sockets is the go.
We had 8 sockets on the cargo barrier Could charge anything from them.

I would recommend using 12v chargers rather than an inverter for mobiles and laptops. An inverter is a good idea for some 240V appliances however mobile phones are easy, there are a range of 12v chargers and you can buy spare batteries to take with you. There are also a range of cheap power packs that connect to your mobile to charge and give you emergency power.
