Hi Guys,

I own a 2004 (IFS) factory turbo diesel 100 series landcrusier.

It,s just clocked up 150K. As a consequence the timeing belt needs replaceing and I beleive Toyota also reccomends the injector pipes get replaced at 150K as well.

I am loking to have a full service which incorporates the above. I,m also looking to fit a chip and new exhaust.

To all those mechanical minded out there I like to know what you would recommend I do in what order and what brand chip and exhaust would you recommend?

I,m been quoted about $1800 just for the full service etc thats before I fit a chip and exhaust.

Bet the service doesnt inlude the injector pipes.

I had my 150,000k service done a while ago and it cost me $1200 including the timing belt and idlers which were over $50 each.

Didnt do the pipes as havent heard of anyone doing them.

A chip and an exhaust will cost about $2500.

I had mine done at AMMS in Brisbane Cost $1000 roughly for a 3" mandrel exhaust and I had a chip I got off Ebay.

Thye sell RAPID chips and they are between $1200-$1500

Good outfit and good service

Get a Beaudesert Exhaust (NOT STAINLESS $1800+)

Had my 150k service done last week by a well respected 4wd Specialist in Melbourne, as Mick O will agree ATOC

Did not changed injector pipes, but did replace timing belt, hydraulic tensioner and timing belt adjuster bearing (genuine parts).

Total Cost under $ 700.

Good but mine was 140,000 not 150 as I thought and the hubs and brake fluid and diffs etc had to be done as well so was 4 hours for that plus the belt

I can now see why your service was so dear, as you have done the 140k, 150k and 160k service all at once.

Probably cheaper in the long run good thinking!!

John

Noel,

I’ve done a bit of research on this and am fitting a 3.5 inch Taipan system and a rapid chip next Tuesday. I’m having it fitted at a diesel specialists up in the northern suburbs. I went for the Taipan having seen them at one of the 4x4 shows and they were very accommodating in customising mine to allow for the stretch, long range tank and all the undertray boxes.

As far as the chip is concerned I’ve chosen the Rapid following a couple of reviews and speaking with a few diesel experts. The rapid is a fuel pulse type module and is completely tuneable as opposed to the simpler plug and play modules. It takes a lot of dyno time to set it up for my needs factoring in the exhaust. I will be able to provide you with more in respect to performance and power gains in a couple of weeks (and the prices as well....yikes!)

Cheers Mick

P.S. With the exhaust on the cab chassis units, they reccomend fitting an EGT guage so I'm having that fitted at the same time.

Ka ching!$!

Oh well, I don't waste it on wine women and song!

As these chips are designed to get extra fuel to the engine, the end result is more heat being created. Not keeping an eye on it can push a motor into the death zone if one's not careful. Part of my reasoning in going with the rapid is that the chip can be tuned where as many of the plug and play modules simply rely on getting extra fuel dumped into the motor.

The EGT will let you know what's happening with heat in the engine as opposed to relying on vehicle temp gauges that rely on water jacket temperature and react quite slowly.
