Get a camping permit for Carson River from Kalumbaru. Follow the track in just after the Carson River Crossing to Bulldust yard and then a rough bush track into the Drysdale.Camp just south of the big billabong as you can walk across the river to the Escarpment. Many Gwion (Bradshaw) art sites immediately opposite in the Drysdale National Park. All walking. Rugged country and watch the green ants.

If you are using Ozi, Trackranger or a Garmin, MM me with an email address and I'll provide you with some waypoints for good camp spots and some of the art sites.

Oh and take a good rod and strong line as there are some BIG barra in the billabong.

Cheers Mick

Ok now you've got the semantics sorted, how about some advice for Charlou!

It is a great place and it's going to get tightened up as far as access goes real quick so get in and get your permits to visit these areas while you can.

well seing as the kimberly is divided into east and west kimberly when refering to them as a whole that would make the area the Kimberlies

same as the area around kalgoorlie is called the goldfields - not the Goldfield as it comprises of the eastern, northern and southern goldfieldS

All, this is distracting from the members question. How about we try and keep it relevant to the question that Charlou posed.

Cheers Mick

Hi Mick,
Just wondering whether your offer of information of GRR waypoints/camp sites is available for non-members? I tried to MM you, but was unable to do so since I'm not a member.

We're currently up here in the Kimberley...life's great! :-)

Yeah right Get outmore. There is an East and West Perth, and i have yet to hear anyone say they are going to the Perths. Even with the east and west Pilbara, it is still the Pilbara, and it is still the Kimberley.

Dunno about the recent " record levels" of lake Argyle , once a lake is full that is it....it over flows, I have been on it when it was full...and it nearly always is full....lots of water up there. The tours take you out to some of the islands to show you wildlife that has been trapped on them since the lake was formed , I understand that they did try to rescue a lot of the animals when the lake first started to fill but it filled so quickly that it was not possible to get a lot of them ....cheers

highest levels of over 100m depth since it was created, it spread a long way south and East

the hydro station was within inches of having to shut down due to excessive head pressures on the turbines

looks very impressive from the air

(we can see it after take off )

Hi Charlou

Our info about the Gibb River is that it will be sometime before the road is open up right through. Barnett River is the major culprit. As always check the main roads conditions report. Latest one can be found on this linky

Hi Charlou

Our tour of the Kimberley (the one and only LOL) was fairly conventional, and we saw some good examples of Bradshaw rock painting. Brief blogs of the trip are in the My Blog section under 2008, with more detailed travelogues on Australia So Much to See.

I can't help with the weather and opening times for the GRR.
