The IsatPhone comes up
well in that
test; and prepaid calls with long expiry make it kindof affordable for occasional use.
But when you read of a US-only promotional offer from Globalstar of:
"GSP-1700 Satellite Phone for $499 with unlimited airtime voice plan at $19.99 per month." - website
it makes it clear how much we're paying here.
OK, Globalstar have had access probs but the rest of their 2nd gen sats were supposed to be launched this month.

For what it's worth - I've just sent off the papers for an IsatPhone. $340 for the phone. $11.60/mth access. $0.95/min for call to landline. $1.05/min for call to mobile There is a charge for SMS but not sure of that one - it was under $0.50 though. Still sounds too good but I am getting a bit more convinced that it should be ok. rgds

Thanks Maverick. Keep us posted.
So you're buying the phone from overseas? Or is that a plan from a local supplier?

If you look closely you will see that report was done by an IsatPhone reseller, it is very biased and nothing more than a marketing document.

By biased I assume you mean wrong or misleading.
Which facts or conclusions fit this bill and what's your evidence?
...
The review was commissioned by Inmarsat and done by TelAstra, an independent telecomms satellite consulting firm.
