Anything over 750kg ATm should have brakes, whether you have overide or electric is up to you.
Electric are better but more expensive so depends on your pocket depth I guess

I have been towing hired camper trailers for many years without electric brakes.
However I have just bought a second hand C/T WITH electric brakes and I could not believe the difference it makes. It just feels so much saver on the road and track.
My trailer is around the 1100kg fully stocked, but even if its lighter than that I would recommend it.

Your vehicle braking is normally compromised when you go away
camping with all the gear you pack into your 4WD, let alone before you attach a CT, even if it is
well below the 750kg mark.
Yep I used my 1st CT without trailer brakes for a few years, but a couple of heart in mouth moments made me get brakes.
Best CT modification I ever did.

Totally agree with the above comments.
I fitted electric brakes to my camper trailer even though it was under the weight limit required to fit them. I reckon they saved me from a few collisions when I did some emergency stops to avoid wildlife or washouts on the outback roads.
Good insurance policy I say.
Cheers

Hi Allyson52,
The law states that if the towed vehicle is over 750 kg it must have brakes.
If you have to fit brakes then electrics offer greater control from the drivers
seat and although they cost more they are worth it. You have already made that decision apparently, and a good decision too.
Your question is a little ambiguous as you say "fit electric to your car" as opposed to fitting to the trailer so we assume you mean fitting them to your trailer.
Answer is 750 kg
Cheers, Bruce.
