l'm thinking of going camping at the Merlville caves camping ground in the Kooyoora state park in central Victoria. Its a free
campground no fees or permit required.Has anyone here camped there? Is is a good place for a family to
camp? as someone mentioned in another post some campsites have problems with hoons, drunks and thieves. Is Melville caves OK or should l go somewhere else.

It is a free
campground no nothing needed. I have camped there. It is a good place for a family to
camp. Long drop
toilets. Would not expect you to have any trouble there. Has mobile phone reception so if you have any issues at all phone the Inglewood Police Station or 000 or 112 on your mobile. Don't hesitate to phone the police as soon as the trouble starts. Don't leave it till later hoping it may go away. Kooyoora State Park is too far away for hoons.

Hi jim j, I've camped there several times over the last 30 yrs. Lots of space for the kids to run around, no facilities except dunnies, beautiful
granite countryside, good walking tracks. It is stunning when the wattles are blooming and after the wet 2010 and early 2011 will be positively verdant.
Never had problems with hoons, although a famous private school once took over the place en masse to view Haley's
Comet.
Go. Enjoy.
