Hi all,
I was topping up the clutch fluid in my Rodeo and discovered that there was a layer of mud (Looked like a rubber diaphragm) built up in the reservoir. I've cleaned it out and replaced the fluid.
My question is how did it get there and is my general clean up enough?
Cheers Wilko

Gday Wilko
I would give it a bleed just to make sure the system is clean of contaminates.

Had the same thing in the Pa,j a few weeks after cleaning it out, I also had to replace the slave cylinder as that had got scored in the
bore.
I would just say it was moisture in the brake lines causing it.
Cheers.

hi wilko
its a fairly common problem for 4wd's
most clutch reservoirs have a breather hole in the cap and the dust/
water will enter there from deep
water crossings and/or mud -
water ploshing up under the bonnet
and if you wash the engine bay and concentrate the degreaser and high
water pressure on and around the cap area you will without realizing force degreaser/dust/mud into the reservoir and it will form as you found a layer of sludge inside
i have been caught the same way
i always tape some plastic around it or gladwrap /tape when washing other wise the problem will raise its ugly head time after time
a thorough clean out top to bottom of master cylinder and slave cylinders/pipes will be needed and/or replacement depending on damage found
but if the fluid is found to be low its a pretty sure thing that there is damage evident either cups in slave or m/cylinderwill be leaking and could also be cylinder bores maybe pitted if so renew units

Thanks guys for the advice, I'm going to flush it to ensure there isn't any contaminants and ensure that no components are damaged.
