Dear Forumites,
Does anyone know of any non caravan park camping around Charleville. We are not fussed at camping in caravan parks so if you know of any alternatives could you please let me know. We are 3 campertrailers or off road vans that are all self sufficient so do not need any ammenities or other facilities. Thanks heaps I know someone will help me out.

Hi Barbara,

Have a look at ozcamps - it has information about free camping sites around Australia. Theres one listed at Warrego river Crossing around 40 kms north of Charleville...no facilities.
I haven't stayed there so no idea what it is like.

Cheers,
Heather

Gooday,
Try Ward River, 25KM west of Charleville on the Highway, there is a fairly new section of road there, you go down the old road to the river and can, (or could last September),still cross the bridge and back on to the new section again. Were good camp spots either side of the bridge, good and quiet. Best view of the stars on a dark night of many places we have been.
Cheers,
Boroma 604.

About 20km east of Charleville there is a large gravel pit (full of water). There is a microwave tower on the left heading for Charleville and the gravel pit is on top of a rise on the left. Plenty of room to get off the road out of sight. It is actually between the road and the railway but there aren't too many trains out that way.

Try Evening Star Tourist Park - never been there myself but it's out of town and should be better than a standard caravan park.

Get yourself Camping Around Australia or Camps 5 (or 6) and you'll find some non-caravan parks.

Evening Star is a ripper place to stay. Excellent camp kitchen, campfire and bush cooking pit. Have stayed there a couple of times and will do so again.
