Does anyone have a diagram??

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have a simple diagram on how to hook up an Anderson Plug from the motor to the back (outside) of our Landrover Disco. We want to be able to charge the battery in the caravan boot as we are travelling along. We also want the charging to cut off once the vehicle is turned off. So if anyone could help us with just a simple basic but safe method of doing this it would be very much appreciated.

Thanking you
Andrea

Hi Andrea,

Anderson Plugs are simple and easy, but only once you figure out how they go together! Like this:

The recommended way of connecting and disconnecting the auxilliary battery from the main one is to use a voltage sensitive relay (VSR), also called a dual battery isolator, made specifically for the job. Have a look at the ABR Sidewinder website for details. These things connect the two batteries together once the engine is started and disconnect reliably when it stops.

This can be done manually using an Anderson Plug, but far better if it's automatic.

Bit of an overkill using a Redard Isolator to disconnect the caravan battery.
I use a 60 amp automotive relay supplied by Jaycay – cost $15.
The coil of this relay is energised by the motor run circuit in the 4WD.
The contact is in series with the positive lead to the caravan.

HI Derek and thanks for the Link.

My husband has been looking at your site and finds it really informative. And the kit is great value for what we need it for. I've no doubt from listening to him that he will purchase from you towards the end of next week...Thanks again Derek.

Ni Andrea11,

The following diagram is for fitting to an aux battery setup.

Image Could Not Be Found

The fuse set up at the aux battery is a safety feature just in case something is connected that does not have a fuse in line.

The use of auto fuses just simplifies the setup and makes it as safe as possible without the inconvenience of chasing fuses in the event of a minor mishap.
(Accidental short) Fuse will auto reset.

Cheers, Bruce.

Andrea,
Have a look at this website:- Dual Battery installation
I set mine up from these details including installing a redarc isolator. It all works a treat.
