Shire of Wyndam road report

Mitchell Fall Road

We were heading there in 2 weeks, if we miss this year it will be the second year in a row. We got there during the May rain 2010.

Cheers,
John

Sorry John its not looking good. Big washaways up that way. Going off the Main Roads fax this morning the Gibb Rd is open from end to end (vehicles under 3T only) however water is still quite high (up to the bonnet in LC70) around Barnett to Gibb Station section.

Interesting pix in the road report. We made it to Mitchell Falls in early May last year and the only problem was the last few km before the Falls camping ground. 3 or 4 boggy patches. Nothing at all like the pix show. Still if you can delay until July it will be fixed. There's always a risk going early in the Dry..............W

Hi Warrie,

We are lucky that we are retired and can change our dates.

I just feel sorry for the people who only have set holidays or LSL and will miss out.

We met a lot of people in this situation last year when the rain came.

Some had spent 2 years planning their trip and had to go home,

Cheers,
John

Rang the Shire of Wyndham again today, very friendly and polite, they are getting a lot of phone calls from would be travellers.

They hope to have it open in the first week of July, but was told to ring later this month.

The Shire President and Engineer flew over the area this week.

The comment was there is still a lot of water flowing

Cheers,
John

As at 1600wst today - the road is unlikely to be opened this year. Community and stations have been advised. Supplies into the community currently by barge and stations will be unable to muster this season. Possible re-evaluation early July. rgds

Sorry I should have explained, I was asking about getting to Mitchell Falls not Kalumburu.

They explained the road further north still had water on it.

John
