40/80

As I have not had an answer to my question in the earlier post I though someone could answer it in a new thread.

I am just a layman as far as the 40/80 channels go. As I understand it, we now have 40 channels spacing at 25 K khz. in the same area of the spectrum we now have 80 (77) channels spaced at 12.5 Khz. The new 40 channels will be 1A, 2A, 3A, up to 40 A. will not the original 40 channels still be in the same place? So my 40 channels will still be in the same place 1, 2, 3, - - - - - 40. As I said, I am a layman as far as this electricary goes and am willing to be enlightened. Sounds to me like another Government grab for cash. Steve.

Yes your 40 channels will still be in the same place. The new channels starting at 41 will be spaced between your existing channels. If you are using a 40 channel set carry on.

At the risk of getting my head cut off I would like to add a bit.

Yes you did explain it.

However, from my experience at trying over many years (40+) not to get too technical when explaining something electronic, either in a lecture or a meeting, to an audience not skilled in the area, I would suggest that you should have abbreviated it a lot.

You were talking to someone who claimed to be ignorant in the field, so most of what you said would have confused him and he may have stopped reading too early to see your answer. Which was in fact nearly at the end.

I would have put it at the start and then said the rest as an explanation should he wish to read more. Then those who do not want to know can "go to sleep" and those who wish more detail can then read on. This approach covers a variety of skills in your audience.

You did an excellent job. I was unlucky not to have anyone tell me the same. I just mumbled through the first few times until one of the "older" students asked me to slow down. We chatted and I learnt a lot from my "student".

Don't put your self down.

Enough of that.
