Hi there, I need some help and advice.
I am trying to put two RV3 oztents together with one set of peaked side panels.
(Kind of like the way a tagalong tent would look zipped on, but with the convenience and future configuration flexibility of the 2nd RV3 with it's proper and quick internal frame)
I assumed that the zip on the awning would zip onto the fly zip on the 2nd tent, but it doesn't...nothing matches - male to male, closed ends etc.
Is there anything that can make this connection between those two zips?
Is it possible to get another zipper part that is open ended each end, and maybe I could modify or cut the stopper off 2 ends of the Oztents zips?
I wonder what size zips are used on these? There's a few zip parts people in USA on eBay.
How about the Awning Connector? Would that work? Anyone got one of those?
Could work if the Awning Connector will zip between the awning of one RV3 and the Fly zip on a second RV3?
I have out these questions to Oztent tonight as
well, and I hope to hear from them soon, but I wonder if there is a DIY option that people are doing out there...

Oz Tent make a joiner section to join the two verandas of the tents. I brought
mine ages ago so can't remember the price. It also pays to have a spreader bars across were they are joined.

Thank you, that is called the "awning connector" which connects awning to awning.
In my perfect world, I would like to connect the awning of one tent to the top edge of the other tent.
It will look like this:
That's the tagalong setup. I want to use 2 RV3s

Looking at the tagalong set up, if you set the first awning as in photo, then throw the awning of the second tent back over top of the first awning. If you put poles at the corners of the two tents then use your guy ropes to hold the awnings down. May be this might work for you. Both myself and daughter have RV3 with sides and found out that you cannot join them without the joiner.

Yes, that's what we are going to do.
In the event of rain and the problem of water pooling on the roof I will get creative with a cheap tarp and ropes as a fly.
Thanks for the reply

I have 2 RV5 Tents and have purchased the awning conector. This comes with the side strips that are required to join the 2 sides also. From memory it cost about $90. The side connectors actually dont even use the zips provided (Velcro Instead). Still works
well though.

Thanks Polly, have you ever joined them as I am describing?
I know that on eBay a seller called Amazon Outdoors is selling the older/previous style awning connector that doesn't have the sides. And that would suit me if the zips at the top match up.

Big T.
No mate.. I went bush with 2 tents and no connectors and could not for the life of me understand why OzTent did not utelize the existing robust zips on the tents themselves (Then Bought Connector). I have just travelled 13000Kms useing the 2 tents every night and found this the only disappointment. Really not a big thing but. I thing you might just be best to grab youself the connector. Only adds about a minute to the set up.
Cheers..
Polly.

Yeah, but then it could be only awning to awning, so if I want an enclosed middle section I need to buy another set of side panels.
Also, aside from the price, this makes the whole tent a lot longer. And unlikely to fit onto most caravan park sites that I have seen lately.
We are trying to just have a fully enclosed 3 room setup.
I need to know if the Awning connector will fit between the Awning zip of one tent and the Fly zip on the 2nd tent

Hi Big T,
You could get an adapter made female to female it could only be a couple of cm wide, just enough to connect the 2. You could approach Oztent to make you one (although it'd be exxy)

The awning connector is the correct thing to use.
You need to consider the requirement for drainage between the two downsloping sections of the roof. The awning connector provides this.

Thanks to all those that have replied.
Unfortunately what I am trying to do is not possible with off the shelf Oztent parts.
Have spoken to a friendly sales rep AND a friendly spare parts rep at Oztent, and they said this is the first time anyone has spoken to them about this,,, and although it's a good idea, nothing they have will do the job.
The zips they use are their own style (via China), and although I can buy lengths of zip from them, they weren't keen to make anything up themselves.
Despite this, being an optimist I went off to Snowys here in
Adelaide and tried every combination of add on accessory that is available, and unfortunately Oztent are right, and nothing will work.
Caravan connector, Awning connector, Side Awning etc wont work as the zips are not going to work together.
Bought another Oztent spreader pole from Snowys (great guys there) and will see how it goes using that (to keep the roof from sagging too much), and overlapping the awnings.
My advice to others is get the tagalong tent despite the extra setup time of pegs and ropes and whatever else is involved with that.
Or don't have kids.
Cheers, Big_T

Hi Big_T
Can I trouble you for the number of the person that offered you the zippers as I have an RV5 with peaked sides and want to do something similar but will add straight to another tent and leave the awning rolled up if possible as you say putting two of any size would be quite long but as we
bush camp mostly not a prob

Ring the Oztent number on their website and ask to speak to the spare parts guy.
I don't remember his name. Sorry.
I didn't get as far as asking how much or what the deal was with getting the zips.
Cheers
