In law son and my two boys quite often went for a drive to test those machines . The car was an unmarked police car , can you imagine little Wes and Ben in someone elses car? If they drove it like my wifes car ,, well that's another storey...

I couldn't believe how many times that thing went off. So many unregistered vehicles around. The fella that was caught had a great attitude considering he just got fined over a grand. I think this invention is a good thing.

Amazing technology! 1984, Big Bro is certainly here! Just think once we are all micro chipped they will be able to check if we have any unpaid taxes or any outstanding warrants. It will of course be, so we are all safer.

It will continue a trend Axle.

More automatic fines to be issued and less police cars on the road.

Some would call this a win win situation.

Robin,

Do you actually know if the number of cops "on the beat" has decreased since new fining technologies have been implemented? It would be interesting to see the actual stats.

Hi Rob

Comments like those below seem to show that in my home state there has been a long term downward trend in police patrols.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The statistical analysis, by the State Opposition, shows that Victoria has the fewest police per head of population of any state. Victoria has 216 for every 100,000 people in 2008, compared with 220 in NSW, 230 in Queensland, 242 in Tasmania, 247 in Western Australia and 272 in South Australia.

The Opposition calculates that Victoria has been at the bottom of this table every year since 2003, with the exception of 2006 when the NSW figure of 215 was below Victoria's 221.

Internal police statistics released last month showed that the time officers spend on general patrol has fallen each year since 2002-03, from more than 1.9 million hours to about 1.5 million in 2007-08.

The Opposition intends to run hard on the issue of police

Hi Axle,

Incredible technology, and a good thing if it gets unregistered cars and drivers without a licence off the road.

Wonder if they will develop something to detect corrupt police!

All the best Warren.

NO it won't get unlicensed drivers & unregistered vehicles off the road because people keep on driving. Let me pose a question to you. "If your licence was suspended/cancelled or you were disqualified from driving for exceeding the demerit point system, would you still drive? Take into consideration you have to get to work to earn money to meet monthly commitments. Do you still drive? Let's look at the hyperthetical there is no public transport & you have to get to work. What about mums who drive their children to & from school you would be amazed at the number of people out there who are still driving w/out a licence because of loss of points. Registered vehicles? The number has increased greatly due to non payment of fines. The sherrifs Office in Victoria cancels registrations on vehicles due to the owner's non payment of fines & cancels licences too. One of our problems in this country regarding road laws & regulations is that it's not National. In your state I can take a very unroadworthy & unsafe car to get registered & all the authorities do is check to see if it is not stolen!!! Then that vehicle can be driven all over Australia!! In South Austrakia the Police cannot just stop you for a Breath test, you must first of all have done something wrong to be checked!! RBT sites. The police test you & on you go. Not "Can I see your licence"? No check if the car is stolen or unregistered....it's all about the Police minister standing up in Parlarment & declaring that over a million drivers have been tested in the drink drive campaign to make Victoria a happy safe state....In Victoria to cut back on expenditure the Govt are withdrawing Police vehicles & selling them...not replacing...selling. Corrupt Cops? Do you know of some Warren? I can give you the phone number of internal affairs if you PM me.

We can get unregistered cars off the road.....................Crush 'em. Driving dads car without a license, bad luck, crush it. I have no sympathy for wankers that flout the law.

I'm not saying to crush your car if your rego is a week overdue, obviously we have to make allowances for genuine situations.

I reckon we should be made to fit computers in our cars that check your speed, reaction time, use of indicators, brakeing style etc. and everytime you make a mistake it automaticaly withraws money from your bank account.
It could save on office staff, trees, court costs and police.
