Interested in any responses as I'm having a similar problem. It happened after I updated the maps & I contacted Garmin & was told to run the update again to see if that fixed the problem. No luck though.

Hi Oldpop, I've had 3 Nuvi 760's in about 20 months because they kept on freezing up. I rang Garmin and they replaced each one under warranty...no problems. The last one they sent me is still working fine and they sent that one to me about 7-8 month ago. Initially not happy with the product due to reliability but can't complain about the service so try calling them and see if they'll cooperate.
Good luck
Ian

Hi oldpop
I have been using a Garmin 760 as my main navigation device for a few years and found it quite reliable.
Have you checked what firmware version your are running?
To find out, press "Tools", "Settings", "System", "About"
My device shows Software Version 4.80
I have been advised against upgrading to version 4.90 due to reports of lockups.
I believe Garmin did release a version 5.1 but withdrew it akmost immediately due to too many problems.
There is also an issue in that if you update to a new map, the device software often gets updated also.
It is possible to "downgrade" your software to get back to an earlier version, but if you wish to do this I would suggest you seek advice from real experts (such as GPSOz) rather than relying on advice from users such as myself.

Hi
Another thing I should have mentioned is that when you do a "downgrade", your own data (such as favorites) may get deleted so be sure to back up everything first.
If you have trouble finding old software downloads, go to

and proceed carefully.
