The battery has died!

A Google search came up with a cost of $65.
Does anyone know if those purchased on the net are reliable? Are they Chinese?

The local computer shop quoted $165 stating that the Japanese batteries, not the original Toshiba batteries, are the best.

I would like to deal with a Business Member in this field on Exploroz but I cannot find a tab for Business Members. Can anyone help please.

Go Chinese on Ebay

Chances are the geniune ones come from a different painted door, from Chinese Battery Factory # 342...... if you get my drift.

But behind that different painted door, from Chinese Battery Factory # 342...... there is better manufacturing facilities and they source there components from a reputable component supplier who uses world class manufacturing techniques in there products...... if you get my drift.

Hi Navigator

You are in that wonderful world of "who really knows" .......

We deal with a lot of notebooks and as it is business related we would usually go with a genuine.

However having said that if it was me personally I would be very surprised if the genuine ones have anything in them other than general unbranded stuff out of China.

I would probably go half way and see what the batteries stores sell them for eg. Battery World or Batteries Plus - most have replacements now for common notebooks - but I think you will find they all come from China.

Recently (and you all may laugh) I decided to fix my 2 cordless drill battery packs and the cost of replacements annoyed me so much I went and bought a bunch of the cheapest ni-cad's on eBay out of Hong Kong and re-built them myself - but I have not used it long enough to know yet how good they are. But I reckon the originals were not made in any top quality factory.

Unfortunately I think we kill more batteries by not treating them right rather than them dying of old age. And that is a whole other discussion for people far more knowing than me.

Ken

I went through this same excercise about 3 months ago as the battery in my 3 year old Toshiba sattelite A100 had died.

Genuine replacement (made in China) $135

Did a google and came up with a no name brand (made in China) for $19 plus $10 postage ! supposedly an ozzie company !

Arrived in 7 days from Hong Kong to Perth WA.

Cannot be more happy, it works fine and so far I am way ahead even if it fails prematurely.

I hope you stay happy, hazo. The difference is normally in life span. You may be back shopping the internet sooner than you want.

I can only echo the sentiments of those suggesting the internet. I source all such
things via ebay at a fraction of the cost of local suppliers. Camera/video batteries,
rechargeable AA,AAA & 9 volt batteries, sd cards, any type of connecting leads for
ipods, phones, cameras. I'm sure what you need will be available..just go to ebay.com.au & type in the battery no or id & see what comes up. cheers.....oldbaz.

Rob,

I have a Toshiba and also needed a bigger battery - I bought mine off ebay and it is chinese cost was about $90 but mine is bigger than standard - the battery is now 5 years old and is still running well. I often use it just on battery and am still getting nearly 3 hours use. The original Toshiba battery only ever gave me about one hours use.

I do not think chinese is an issue.

Personally I wouldn't fear Chinese batteries too much, A few years ago my Cannon battery failed in my Cannon camera. Genuine replacement.....$95.00

Cheap Chinese on ebay, 2 for $27.00 delivered to my door, plus they are twice the capacity as the original, still working fine 3yrs down the track. How could I lose?

Cheers

Over the years there has be numerous recalls from laptop manufactures regarding original equipment batteries over heating, catching on fire or exploding.

These OEM batteries I would think would be built to a higher standard with better testing then the eBay ones.

At least with OEM batteries they do a recall, haven't heard of a overseas eBay seller doing a recall so wonder how many batteries go up in smoke.

Not all things in China are made the same even if they look the same.... I can get a product built in China that looks the same as another companies product that's also built at the same factory, but my product is 1/2 the price.... why; I can stipulate what parts are going into it and what material quality is used in manufacturing.

In other words the other companies product is of better quality and build then the product I might source...... the public would only see the price of my so called product is 1/2 the price of the other companies so call identical product.... I'm selling an inferior product and making more money from it but the public doesn't care... it's 1/2 the price.

So not all things are the same.

If your going to buy a cheap aftermarket battery by it from a reputable reseller here in Australia and not one from China.

eBay is the biggest killer of jobs and the Australian economy ..but I suppose people don't really care!

It's a dog eat dog world.

I ordered a new battery on eBay from China for my laptop some 3 years ago and it still going strong and last for about 2 hours. Was halve the price I would have paid locally.
