Hi all,
Myself & a group of friends are doing a trip from the
Gold Coast to
Lake Eyre in July this year. We have limited time up our sleeve so have been looking to do the section from
Tibooburra upto
Cameron Corner, down the Strzlelecki Track to
Marree in one big day... Does anyone have any experience there? My figuring tells me it's roughly 400k's to
Lyndhurst & a further 80k's to
Marree. Can it be done?
Thanks
Zaak

No 1 rule don't speed
If the roads are dry from Tiboburra to Merty Station, you will average 80 km/hr, no probs, but if wet, you will have a few stops and diversion tracks to contend with.
They are all easily doable in the wet.
The Strzlecki Track is usually in good condition, and kept that way because of the Gas Oil plants around
Innamincka. Again that will again depend on the weather.
Do it in 8 hrs easy, and with a few stops.
Cheers
Bucky

The roads are dry and as Bucky says the Strez track is in fairly good condition. Its a long drive but quite doable in 1 day.

Hi Zaak
Last year when we were staying at the
Copley Caravan Park, we were talking to a chap in his late 60's that was driving a Toyota Coaster about the usual stuff around the campfire...where are you heading and where have you come from.
He said that he had left
Tibooburra that morning and had driven through to
Copley in 1 day, driving to the conditions and when the travelling was good, he said he was able to sit on 80 kph. Providing that the Strez is dry, it is usually in good condition.
As for the now 80 kilometres from
Lyndhurst to
Marree, it is broken up now with only 2 dirt sections, not like years ago when it was all dirt.
I hope this is of some help to you.
Cheers
Stephen

Hi Zaak,
Most the roads are good out that way at the moment, to save a bit of time you can take the shortcut across to the
Strzelecki Track from the Cameron Crn/Merty Merty road. The turn is 34km past the Yellow Bus (28 48.802 S, 140 15.858 E), look for a red marker on a pole, the track had only been graded when we went thru 3 weeks ago and was in good condition.
