I am heading up to Cape York this year late August early September Just wondering if any one can help me out with the best route to take and what are the best things to see?

That is a pretty open ended question. It depends on how capable your vehicle is and what interests you as to where you may want to go.
There are a couple of worthwhile publications on Cape York, one of them is written by Ron Moon. They are well worth having a look at as to give you a bit more of an idea on the area to help start planning your trip.

I've got to agree with Alby. The Ron and Viv Moon book, is the best thing you could buy before your trip. Between that and the Hema our trip was made really easy.

It's available on this site in the Store.

Cheers,

Hi.
We spent 3 weeks on the Cape itself and it was a good reccy for future trips.

You must go to Bamaga, Seisa and Pajinka (The Tip). Loyalty Beach is a great caravan park. The Old Telegraph Track was a lot of fun. The Wenlock and Pascoe River were a challenge on The Frenchmans Track. Mutee Head is a great camp spot.

Highlights for us were camping at Canal Creek, camping at Somerset, Lake Wicheura near Somerset, camping on the beach about 1.5km south of Usher Point and the 72km beach run from Usher Point to Captain Billys Landing. The last one was the greatest adventure we've had but it is actually "prohibited".

My advice is to not try to do it all and enjoy what you can do. It's a great part of Australia. A lot depends on your circumstances, such as who you're travelling with, how your vehicle is set up and what you want to do.

Have fun.
