I was talking last night to a tour operator who leaves next week to take a group through the
Kimberley. He said the East
Kimberley shire had told him that the road to
Mitchell Falls is unlikely to be opened at all this year and there is a lot of work to be done on the
Kalumburu Road beyond
Drysdale River.
He was already working on
Plan B and expects Plan C and even D might get a workout when he actually gets there.
Food for thought for people heading that way over the next few months
Cheers

If you look at yesterdays Shires Road Report, you will see they are currently
working on the road to
Mitchell Falls to reopen it.

Not looking for an argument here just trying to provide some information that came from a good source.
The shire website report is dated 25 May and was pending an aerial inspection on May 30. My man's information is this week.
Obviously its a changing situation and people heading there will
check for themselves
Cheers

You are reading an old report
On the
home page you will see "Road Condition Report" just above
Kalumburu Road Closures
I have have spoken to them twice recently and they are hoping to have the road open in early July.
Cheers,
John

I was talking to both Drysdale Stn and Heliworks only yesterday, nothing guaranteed at present, but be assured they are working on the road and hoping it will be open at least to
Mitchell Falls before mid July possibly earlier, the best thing to do is to keep checking with the locals. My trip up there is mid July so hopefully we'll be OK. But, as I said to one of my customers, this is only 4 days of a 26 day trip and there is plenty more to see in the
Kimberley.
Don't let it stop you from seeing this fantastic piece of Australia.
