Howdy all,
Has anyone travelled the railway line from Tom Price to get to Millstream?
If so, what are the road conditions like?
Is it slower going than the Roebourne Wittenoom Road?
Thanks in advance...
Regards,

We'll be heading out there in a couple of weeks. Hopefully the roads will have dried out a bit? Cheers for that Wayne...

Hi Cheeky1

We haven't been on the Mining Permit road, but took the Roebourne Wittenoom Road some years ago. It was quite stony and peppered, paint stripped and stoved in the front of the wind-up camper we had at the time. Others said the Mining Road was terrible, but this was a few years ago. At least it was dry then!

Thanks Motherhen,
I've got a rubber flap hanging from my tow bar to keep the stones down a bit.
The Tvan still cops a peppering though.
Lucky it's a tough little critter eh?

The difference is that the mining permit road is regularly maintained by the mining company. When you pick up your permit they will have all the information about current track conditions . Normally it is a very good road.

Thanks Nick,
So you reckon it's worth the trip?
It looks as though it's a good shortcut from Tom Price?
Would you say it cuts some time off or is it slower going that the main road to Millstream?

It's the quicker route for sure. You just have to sit through a 20 minute video to get your permit.

To be honest I have no idea if it is shorter or longer than the main road because although I have been on the mine road a few times I have never been along the main road! I like to see the 2 kilometre long trains, not something you can see in too many places and you can pretty well guarantee a few photo opportunities. As for natural scenery I doubt that there is much difference between the routes, but as I say, I haven't been on the main road.

Thanks Nick and GBC.
I think I'll give it a go.
Hoping that the road will be in better condition than the main road too.
I know there'll be corries no matter which route I take and corries are all part of the fun, but I do try to avoid them if I have the choice.
Bit of a woose I know :-)
