I have an 80 series Landcruiser and tow a 1.2 tonne Coromal offroad campervan. Do you think I'd have any problems negotiating the track between Oodnadatta to Dalhousie Springs (via Pedirka) or from William Creek to Halligan Bay on Lake Eyre? I'm mainly worried about deep sand and boggy sections.
Thanks!

You will have no trouble on either except towards the lake it gets a bit soft in spots.
I "think" the Perdirka track is closed at the moment so you may have to go the other way.
If the Pedirka track is open it can get very slow and extremely rough which might be harder on the trailer than you would like.

Gday Peter,
Pedirka Track reopened this week. I expect it will be slow and rough - I'll find out in a few weeks myself.

Things are looking good out in the GVD at present!

Cheers

Mt Dare Hotel's website has good advice re travel in that area - and you can phone them direct too, for expert advice. As for the Halligan Bay track at present - if first hand info doesn't pop up here, the William Creek pub would be worth a try.

Hi,
We were in William Creek a few weeks ago with vans in tow and spoke to the people at the pub who said do not take the vans out to Haliogans Bay. We chose to leave the vans in William Creek caravan Park and head out with out them for the day. Was glad we did. You could get them through but i value my van too much to risk damage out there. Towing costs are huge if you break it.
Just my thoughts
Cheers

Thanks for that.

It's starting to sound like both tracks are too much for a campervan but at least I could leave it at William Creek and do Halligan Bay as a day trip.

Any better way for me to get it to Dalhousie Springs?

Hi mate , went through oodnadata 4 weeks ago with defender and 1.3 tone bush camper , we were told by locals at oodnadatta that the pederka track was closed but if you went on it you would be fine with our set up , he said to just open the gate as it was not locked and there were no official signs . We went there , the gate was open and we had no problems at all , you will be fine,
The road was slightly washed out in places but otherwise it was well worthwhile as it saved us many hours on the boring road.

Enjoy
