Hi Nick,
I have an Excel sheet that calculates fuel usage, power usage and a couple of other spread sheets.
I could E mail it to you if you wish.

Hi Nick,
I have one of those slide type cardboard calculators which I can email you if you like.

Just print it out on a manila folder cut to A 4
Cut on the dotted lines and fold up and there you have it.
If you would like a copy of the calculator email me
alanvale at midcoast dot com dot au.

New boy, I would not have a clue. It was given to me as an image file so I cannot see anything on it that says where it came from or any advertising of any sort.

It does have most of the the things you say but is only a fuel calculator, no feet to metres though.

Bruce.

Nick, in case you were wanting a method to calculate it yourself I will include a
simple method for that.

Take the kilometers travelled and divide by the litres used
This will give the kilometers per litre.

Divide cost of a litre by the kilometers per litre.
This will give you an average cents per kilometer.

Divide this figure (kilometers per litre) into 100
This will give litres per 100 kilometres

Example

Lets say we traveled 350 kilometres and used 50 litres of fuel

350 Km divided by 50ltr = 7 kilometres per litre
-------------------------------------------
Assume average litre of fuel cost $1.45

$1.45 / 7 = .207 this is 20.7 cents per kilometer
or if you like –
reduce the cost to cents per litre
145 cents per litre divided by 7 Km per litre = 20.7 cents per Km
-------------------------------------------------------------
To calculate the litres per hundred kilometers

Take the kilometers per litre (in the example = 7)
Divide that into 100 (100 / 7 = 14.28)
This gives the litres per hundred Km = 14.28

Cheers, Bruce.

Good one Bruce, that's what I do to. Another good idea is to buy a Outback Trip Log from EO and keep all your records of fuel use there.

I made my own Excel spreadsheet that uses those formulas. I keep a record of all my trips that way. I'm sure that any of the ones in the file swap page do the same.

Rod,
I use a spreadsheet to but but not everybody is conversant with spreadsheets and many of us do not like to admit we do not comprehend computers all that well.

I run the spreadsheet for all costs on the road. Probably wasting my time but it helps plan the next trip provided I factor in price rises.

For quick calculations I use the card board slide calculator which is kept in the map pocket on the door. It's just more convenient when in a hurry.
Cheers, Bruce.

If you only need fuel usage and not so much the cost you can do it by converting your Km,s to a decimal

eg: (Taken from Bruce's example) 50L fuel and 350km .... 50 / 3.5 = 14.28 L/100 Km or

785 km and 90L..... 90 / 7.85 = 11.46

this is an easy way of monitoring it while driving when you have used say a quater or half tank of fuel, other than that all you need is a calculator or a good mathamatic mind

hope this helps

Further to Bruce C and Trev6 example you can take the equation one further step and convert back to the old MPG, using a factor of 282.48.
Divide 282.48 by the L/100Km to get MPG
eg: 50L fuel and 350km .... 50 / 3.5 = 14.28 L/100 Km.
282.48 divide by 14.28 = 19.78MPG

Cheers

Thanks for the extra tip Terry, I would definitly need a calculator for that one as the brain power won't stretch that far.

Hi Terry, I always convert my usage back to MPG (beacuse I can "picture" it better in my mind) the method I have used for years is as follows this is my rear tank I filled tonight; 700km divided by 71.91lts =9.734 (klm/lt) multiply by 4.54609 divided by 1.61 = 27.51mpg. Thats running empty to and from work on Ipswich m/way each day , anything over 25mpg I reckon is good for a large vehicle.
Cheers
