Twice now I have tried to book somewhere that has a website only to find out that it's not open to visitors anymore after I have phoned or emailed to make a booking.
Why keep these websites up without any mention of it being closed???
Nardoo Station in
Cunnamulla is closed, as is Windermere Station in
Winton (only open to group bookings).
So frustrating, we had our hearts set on these
places and now it's all turning to bleep :(

Ah Amanda
Blame the US Govt - they started the www, spawned Bill Gates, and probably Google, and ruined(?) our travelling days.
If you could develop a program to clean up dead and dying and un-amended websites, you'd make a fortune.
You'll enjoy Cunanamulla and
Winton wherever you stay.
Cheers
John

so true
John, hmm maybe there is a business idea in that!
Yes, maybe I should stop relying on the www so much and just go with the flow.
Have just booked into the good ole
Cunnamulla Caravan Park with apprently a few football teams there at the same time as us, sounds like fun haha

There is a Regional Junior Rugby League Carnival on in
Cunnamulla which is why there is so many footy teams out there,
Chinchilla has players attending it ;)
Cheers Kev

Totally agree. Very frustrating. And the books are just as bad.
One thing that I learnt very early in the WWW world is that "Everything is not dated - so some stuff is DEAD weight". And by the sound of it you have found plenty of that DEAD weight.
When planning something like what you are after I first TALK to the local tourist office. At least they should know who is still operating/alive. After that I then go to the place's website if they have one or ring them up. I did not have any problems booking a family group trip and an extended
Kimberley trip fur us doing it this way.

Hi Amanda,
Just wing it mate, the trip will take on a bit of the magical mystery tour then and add to the experience.
If you book in then you have a timetable to meet and may miss many things along the way. You will find some accommodation at your destinations. More mystery.
I know when you are working time is limited so all the more reason to limit the stress.
As for computers they are the best and worst toy man ever invented and just occasionally you can actually do some real work with them
Cheers and good luck, Bruce.

ahhh we used to be able to wing it, definitely much more fun, but now with 3 small children in the mix winging it doesn't always work.
We have the 1st week booked, the middle 2 weeks are finding whatever and the last week is booked, a good compromise I think :)

Like to see anyone "wing it" for space or accommadation out
Roma way , if you have'nt booked you have no hope , motels are permanently booked by the mines and it gets worse during cattle sale days.

Nardoo is closed indefinately due to changing hands, from my sources the old owner/operator is moving to
Eulo and possibly opening another similar venture.
Cheers Kev

The problem with website validity is that the operator pays 12 months fee to the internet host but then goes out of business and the website continues until the fees run out. A caring operator would perhaps request the host to suspend the website.

Hi Amandaj.
I also tried to book into Nardoo.
I notified Tourism Qld (as it was shown in their brochures) & they didn't know it was closed.
Cheers.

The new owners took over a week or so ago so not much has been done as yet to notify people ;)
Cheers Kev

Previous managers Carmel & David Meurant are moving back to their own station about 70ks west of Nardoo on the banks of the Paroo.
They will be still holding the Music in The Mulga festival next year but not sure about station stays
