new boy
Yesterday got the dealers reminder that the car is 3yrs old and out of warranty I could buy a new one or pay for extended warranty. So went onto the largest dealer network in WA,s web site looking at new patrols very surprise they could only supply 2 both manuals no autos where in 08 I had about 10 to choice from.
Is it
A. so you give your name and they can make personal contact.
B. Japan,s Tsunami affecting suppy
C. New model close
D. All the EX V8 cruiser people upgrading to a Patrol
Any ideas
PS sorry about the last one but I had to put it in as the Toyota fans bagged the 3 ltr so much it was tiresome BUT now are very very quiet about the Landcruiser,s probelms

The main people who talk about problems don't own them and have never been in them. Most people who own them ( like me) love em.
It's a Nissan thing.

So does that mean that there are no problems with the 200LC then?
If true, then that would be a truly significant moment in motor vehicle history.

There are problems of course. The main one of any significance is that some owners are getting high oil use. There are several fixes inc vacuum pumps and in bad cases I have heard of Toyota replacing the rings. The good news is that Toyota appear to stump up with a fix without much push back. On the Landcruiser
forum I would say that there are 2 maybe 3 really unhappy people. Otherwise the oil use seems to settle down at 40 - 50,000Kms from 1l/5000kms to about 0.5l/10000kms as a guess of averages.
Apart from that the main problem is getting a sore neck from the acceleration with that twin turbo V8 diesel. Man that sucks.
Other annoyances are the approach and departure angles till you get a lift and barwork, you may need to get KDSS reset after a lift to stop a lean, and the GVM could be better, again fixed by
suspension. After that it does take some beating off road and on road IMHO.

In otherwords Boobook if you buy a LC200 you have to spend $$ on modifications to actually make it into /able to do what it was supposedly designed to do in the first instance ,that being a capable 4x4.LOL

Ya got me Alloy.
I should have bought a Patrol 3l, added a chip, EGT, Dump pipes, extractors, 3 inch exhause, 4 - 5 guages to keep an eye on so it doesn't blow up, Down size my camper so I can get up a moderate
hill, and an extended warranty for when it goes at 120,000km.
Then I would have a perfect vehicle that goes 0-100k in 18 seconds, 0 -120,000K in one motor, and still have no lift, bull bar or dealer support.
Great idea.

I'll bight.
It could be A, they are car sales people after all.
And it could be B because the tsunami is affecting delivery of lots of vehicles.
It can't be C because there is no new Patrol model for Australia - that aint gunna happen. ( It is just a rumour started by Nissan Australia but denied by Nissan Japan)
So it must be D.
Oh, it could be E, anyone with a CRD 3l patrol that's 3 years old is getting close to 'D day'. And they are probably sick of getting 19l/100km on the highway from an underpowered 3l 4cyl anyway.
Tick tick tick.

allo Boobook,
I agree with you there.
I own a HDJ79 but for work I have a VDJ79. I prefer mine but for towing and highway runs the V8 is great! I've driven the V8s at work since they came out and apart from the oil usage during the breaking in stage +50 - 60K mileage you really can't fault them.
So NO new Nissan for Australia?? I thought they might put that V6 diesel in with their partnership with Renault.

Geez I must be lucky.
Traded the 08 3ltr Patrol and Picking up new 4.8 ltr Patrol in 2 weeks.
The 08 3ltr has 35000 ks on it, comes out of warranty at the end of June.
Not many 4.8 ltr models around at the moment.
The
Cook will have to watch the Go Pedal for a while when she goes shopping lol lol.

Matthew, AFAIK the V6 diesel will only ever see the light of day on Nissans built on the F Alpha platform, that includes Pathfinder, Navara, and Amarda and Titan in the US. Ie not the GU. The New Y62 patrol is also based on the F Alpha platform but Nissan HQ said there is no demand for a Right Hand Drive Y62's OR a diesel in it other than Australia, and that leaves an annual market of about 1000 to 1500 units a year, hardly a good investment worth it for a company on the verge of being bankrupt. The Y62 would need Diesel AND RHD to sell any significant number here - big R&D bucks.
Also the GU is on borrowed time as it can't meet mandatory ASC regs coming in. Nissan have a 2 year ASC exemption in
Victoria which runs out at the end of next year. It just doesn't make economic sense to do the mods required for an all new engine for a vehicle that is at end of it's life. Then it will be a sad day for 4wding in Australia. End of an era, and a free run for Toyota.
I hope I am wrong.

Back in thread 81503 we apparently got the last white 4800 patrol off the ship and no more would ever come.
We thought they were a steal at the sub 50k price and couldn't believe our luck.
3lt's were around but not our type of car , we were told then (pre-tsunami) that there was a world wide shortage coming and several months wait would be required and even longer if a manual was wanted.

SO how is the economy, Robin ?
Just curious, as I get 8km/lt out of the old 4.2 TD 6.
Last towing figured was 6.2km/lt
Dunno what that equates to the 100 kms..
Cheers Mate

Hi Bucky
Just hanging on to 17lt/100km (5.9 km/lt ) by the fingertips , but trend is upward and expecting overall figure to be 17 - 18 lt /100k.
This is a lt or so worse than the manual GU 4800.

You have to drive very carefully to keep an auto 4800 patrol below 17 and there just to many Toyotas out there Bucky.

Hi New Boy,
If there really is a shortage of Japanese vehicles, then you're not in a bargaining position at present.
It could also be due to buyers spending before the end of the financial year, leading to a shortage.
Reports are that Nissan will release the new wagon here in 2012, but it won't have a diesel option, and will be in the luxury class; ie expensive.
There are suggestions that Nissan will continue to build the GU diesel for some time for the Aust market, overlapping the new wagon.
It appears that you're not interested in a Landcruiser. If you're happy with the old GU, I'd purchase the extended warranty and see what comes on the market in a couple of years when the warranty expires. By then production in Japan will hopefully be back to full swing with competitive production volumes; ie, better bargaining position.
Gerry

No matter who the manufacturer these days joc45 they all seem to be in the 'luxury' class..... the yotas have been there for about 10 years now - ie ever since the luxury tax was introduced I think it has applied to private purchases of the 100 and 200 series. I even had to fit most of my extras after market due to the luxury tax limit when I bought my D40

Toyota are adding a bog standard 200 Series to their range. Available in about 12 months according to the rumour mill.

Same diesel V8 and 6 speed auto. Vinyl floors, barn doors.
Apparently it's coming due to poor sales of the 4 door troopy thing.

What's with the love of barn doors on POV-pack variants and Landcruisers? Isn't the split tailgate much more useful?

Barn doors are good for vertically challenged people.
You can put drop down tables on them.
Both types have their place.

My father is thinking of buying a Disco 3 or 4 but I'm gonna mention this possible Cruiser to him.

G/Day Gone Bush, If Toyota where to release a basic 200s, Then they just about would have everything covered, all that would need to happen is the right pricing!,... Man!!i was looking at a Kluger toDay , near the same siize as a Pajero, The FJ40 it appears everyone would like one of those, The cab chassis.,Well Farmers and Miners have no option if they want the deal. power. and load capaciity all in one!..lol,... The Door is wide open for a competitor to get in there with a same size 200s, but the investment is so high, I often think the koreans will be the next challenger( Hyundia maybe) They have made big inroads in the eathmoving scene.
Cheers Axle.

Until I read some comments in this thread, I couldn't figure out how Nissan got away with treating their customers like complete idiots.
They must have been doing a lot of customer surveys I guess.
